**SUMMARY**

Working with youth is a fun, rewarding way to have a positive impact within the community this summer
Youth Academy is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team in providing youth with opportunities to explore their passions in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM)

The STEM Camp Leader is responsible to develop and deliver hands-on, educational, and FUN camp curriculum to youth ages 9-13 years in Youth Academy’s Jr. STEM & STEM Teens camp programs.
The individual is responsible for assisting with camp preparations, facilitating and managing the day-to
- day schedule of camp activities, completion and delegation of camp operational tasks and duties, and the safety and supervision of the camp participants. This position is supported by NIC’s Youth & Community
Outreach Liaison (YCOL). Two weeks of paid orientation and preparation are included in the six-week position.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES**

1. Develops appropriate curriculum and activities for youth ages 9-13 with a broad range of abilities.
2. Identifies supplies needed to facilitate scheduled activities for the week and work along side the

YCOL to ensure correct supplies are obtained.
3. Facilitates appropriately planned fun, interactive, and engaging activities between camp hours of 9am-3pm
4. Interacts with youth in an enthusiastic, approachable manner
5. Provides excellent communication and client services to youth and their supporting adults
6. Appropriately prepares the group for the following days activities
7. Actively promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity in the camp environment.
8. Effectively leads camp assistants and volunteers, and appropriately delegates tasks and responsibilities.
9. Responsible for relaying student and parental concerns to the YCOL
10. Responds accordingly to conflict and emergency scenarios
11. Assists with administrative tasks related to the management of camp rosters and form collection.
12. Upholds all COVID19 health and safety guidelines set forth by NIC and the Provincial Health Office

**REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE**
- Minimum 2 years of post-secondary education. Preference is given to education in fields related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
- Minimum 2 years working with youth in a paid or volunteer role
- A combination of education and previous experience may be considered.
- A clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check
- Current Standard or Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate
- A valid driver’s license
- A personal vehicle
- Canadian citizenship or valid working VISA

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**

1. Demonstrated ability to facilitate appropriate educational curriculum
2. Advanced capabilities in programming in multiple coding languages (required)
3. Experienced in facilitating lessons, games, and activities for youth.
4. Effective communication, conflict resolution, problem solving abilities.
5. Strong interpersonal skills
6. Proven leadership capabilities
7. Must have excellent proficiency in Microsoft 360 including Word, Excel, Outlook
8. Ability to maintain a high level of energy throughout the day
9. Considerable ability to take initiative and improvise.
10. Commitment to maintaining, a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural awareness/sensitivity.
