Qualifications:

- Masters degree directly related to the position (Leadership, Educational Administration OR the NS Diploma in Instructional Leadership)
- Teaching experience in 7-9
- Graduate level course work in:

- Educational Administration
- Supervision

- Social Justice
- Technology
- Completion of the SSRCE ALP Program or equivalent

Abilities:

- The Vice Principal of a public school is the educational leader of the school and has overall responsibility for the school, including teachers and other staff. It is the duty of a vice principal to ensure that the public school program and curricula are implemented;
- keep attendance records respecting every student enrolled at the school and report thereon to the RCE, as required by the RCE;
- take all reasonable steps to secure full and regular attendance at school of the students enrolled in the school in accordance with policies established by the RCE;
- communicate regularly with the parents of the students;
- ensure that reasonable steps are taken to create and maintain a safe, orderly, positive and effective learning environment;
- ensure that provincial and regional policies are followed;
- identify the staffing needs of the school;
- assist the RCE with the selection of staff for the school;
- evaluate the performance of teachers and other staff of the school;
- assist the RCE in the development and implementation of professional development programs;
- encourage teachers and other staff of the school, students and parents to participate in school decision-making through representation on SAC and committees;
- participate in the establishment and operation of an SAC;
- assist the SAC in the development of school success plans
- account to the RCE for money received from the school board or any other source;
- account to the RCE, through the RED, for the performance of the school;
- co-operate with the staff of other departments and agencies of the Government to better meet the needs of the students in the school;
- perform such other duties as are prescribed by the Educational Act or the regulations or assigned by the Regional Executive Director
