**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
The Summer River Clean-Up Team Coordinator will oversee and supervise the clean-up of the
Seine River greenway carried out by the Summer Team. The Coordinator will lead the Summer
River Clean-Up Team in activities that will clean and enhance the natural environment along the
Seine River while maintaining a positive work environment, resolving conflicts, and managing staff attendance.

**SAVE OUR SEINE **is a community-based environmental organization and registered charity. Its mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance the Seine River through education, awareness, and hands-on participation that enables all citizens to connect with the river’s natural and cultural heritage.

**POSITION**:Full-time (40h/w), seasonal position (16-17 weeks, 640-680 hrs)

**TIME FRAME (APPROXIMATE)**:16-17 consecutive weeks between May 1, 2023 and August
31, 2023.
**WAGE RANGE**:$18-20/hr (depending on experience)

**WORK LOCATION**:Seine River Greenway within Winnipeg (from the floodway to the Red River).

**About You**

Bring your enthusiasm for nature and working outdoors:

- Maintain & clear walking trails and riverbanks, and restore and enhance forest and greenspace (weeding, watering, litter removal)
- Identify additional work needed and coordinate with contractors (e.g. arborists)
- Come prepared to work in all types of weather

Bring your experience building and leading a summer team:

- Assist with hiring and training 4-8 team members
- Inspect the urban Seine River Greenway and develop a general plan
- Plan the team’s activities and chart the progress
- Plan equipment needs
- Identify training needs

Bring your experience using light tools and equipment:

- Maintain and use all equipment
- Drive the team to work areas in the SOS truck

Bring your experience on the water. You are able to:

- Swim (lifeguard experience is a bonus)
- Operate a canoe and operate a small boat

Bring your experience with Health & Safety:

- First aid certificate
- Assess risks and know when to call in support

**Must Have’s**
- Three or more years in team leadership (e.g. camp counselor)
- Be between the ages of 18 and 30
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools, equipment and technical instruments commonly used in natural area maintenance work.
- Ability to perform physical duties and lift up to 50 lbs
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License
- First Aid Certificate

Bonus Points for:

- Familiarity with the urban Seine River greenway (Previous experience on the River Keeper team is an asset)
- Knowledge of riparian plants and animals, native and introduced species identification
- Enrolled in an academic program with focus on geography, environmental science, biological science, natural resources, green spaces management or related field.
