Advancing Health
is a collaboration between cross-disciplinary scientists and expert research staff evaluating the effectiveness of health interventions at the population level. From assessing the cost-effectiveness of a new drug or treatment option to informing policy decisions that change how care is delivered, Advancing Health seeks to improve health outcomes for all.
Housed within the Faculty of Medicine, the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is an innovative unit that encompasses many of the health-related groupings at UBC as a collaborative venture. The School is structured around four divisions: Occupational and Environmental Health; Health Services and Policy; Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health Practice; and Health in Populations. The resulting mix of professions and disciplines is seen as a means of connecting individuals and learners to galvanize the relationship between health research, public health and health services and to enhance learning.
The primary activities of the Postdoctoral Research Fellow include:
- Policy Evaluation: Evaluate existing and proposed pharmaceutical policies, such as drug pricing, reimbursement systems, and changes in scope of practice.- Dissemination of Research Findings: Write and publish high-quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals. Present research findings to stakeholders and at academic conferences.
Errors made could influence the ability of the research team to meet critical deadlines, as well as compromise the results of research project, and therefore impact the credibility of the Principal Investigator. Poor decisions may be damaging to the reputation of the Principal Investigator, the School, and the University and could lead to incorrect or inappropriate policy recommendations being made.
This position will be responsible for access, collection, use and disclosure of personal information in accordance with the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RSBC 1996) and other UBC privacy and security policies. This position requires employees to work under strict confidentiality requirements; internal procedures and policies to protect personal information must be followed and adherence to these requirements will be regularly reviewed by the employer.

Reports to Dr. Aslam Anis and Dr. Wei Zhang.
Supervision Given:
This position does not include supervision of other staff.
Education/Work Experience:
Minimum Qualifications- PhD in Economics, Health Economics, Health Policy, or a related field.- At least 2 years of academic research experience and contributing journal publications.- At least 2 years of experience in econometric and/or statistical analysis and using one software, Stata, R, or SAS.
Preferred Qualifications- Strong understanding of the academic research process acquired through practical and/or academic experience.- Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.- Proficiency in econometric and statistical analysis.- Strong oral and written communication skills.- Research experience in pharmaceutical policy or health economics.- Expert knowledge in topics concerning pharmaceutical policy or health economics.- Experience supervising and mentoring research students or junior researchers.- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
