**Program Instructor - Leisure and Special Interest **_(Sewing Instructor)_**:
**Position Description**: The Program Instructor will prepare class content in consultation with Programmer and instructs leisure/special interest classes in their respective modality. This position aims to create an enjoyable experience for customers in a welcoming and inclusive environment and requires the ability to serve as a positive role model for participants and other staff. Instructor will teach beginner level sewing classes focusing on hand and machine sewing techniques.

**Rate of Pay**: $24 /hour

**Work Location**: This position will work at a variety of facilities including Albert McCormick Community Centre, RIM Park Manulife Sportsplex & Healthy Living Centre, Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex & Community Pavilion.

**Hours of work**: Schedules are built seasonally based on participation trends minimum of 1 hr/ week with a max of 24 hrs/ week. Classes are offered seven days a week, from early morning through to late evening. This position requires evening and weekend availability. Fall 2023 hours of work are: Wednesdays 5:45-8:15 p.m. and Fridays 1:45-4:15 p.m. Preference is for instructor to work both classes. Additional hours may be scheduled for one-time workshops.

**Accountabilities**:

- Prepares class content and instructs classes following required Community Programming and City of Waterloo standards
- Responsible for demonstrating and explaining proper technique, prioritizing consensual form correction practices
- Completes records and reports including class attendance and accident/incident report forms as required
- Ensures that rooms are in a safe condition for class, monitors the safety of program participants at all times, and enforces City procedures and safety regulations
- Prepare, set-up, and take-down of equipment and supplies required for class
- Review emergency procedures with participants and responds to and/or assists with on-site emergencies, incidents and accidents
- Respond to participants immediate questions and provide general customer service support
- Acts as a liaison between the City of Waterloo and participants
- Performs other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Valid Certification for the course(s) being taught, equivalent education or previous experience instructing in the specific program that brings an equivalent level of skill and efficacy
- Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate lesson programs and support a broad spectrum of skill levels in one class in a manner that encourages participants to have agency over their program experience
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
