For more than four decades, **Radiance** has been a steadfast partner on the journey towards healing for women and children affected by domestic violence. We are driven by a collective commitment to ending the cycle of abuse and providing a lifeline of support and resources to those affected. We are a multi-services organization, supporting community needs including a residential shelter, community counselling, and children’s programming.

The Radiance Centre is an integral part of Calgary’s collaborative response to domestic violence, housing women with and without children who are at a high risk for serious injury or fatality. Radiance provides an eighteen-month program that supports clients in navigating the practical and emotional complexities of leaving an abusive, including a six-month follow up to support clients in their safe transition back into the community.

**PURPOSE OF THE POSITION**

The **Parent - Child Educator - Part Time, Evenings & Weekends** will be working with children and their families who have experienced family violence and/or trauma. The focus is on building capacity for healthy parenting, decreased stress for child and parent, and reduced impact of trauma for family. This individual works on a collaborative team that services family in programming at Radiance Family Society.

**YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR**
- Support the awareness and understanding of healthy/positive parenting skills.
- Support the awareness and understanding of secure attachment.
- Develop and coordinate the transition plan for families, in partnership with the resident services team.
- Bridge families to other Radiance or community supports including counseling, parenting support and child development services, in conjunction with the resident services team.
- Develop and deliver programs on evenings and weekends to support the clients on strategies to promote positive growth such as social skills, effective communication, life skills, problem solving and healthy attachment.
- Plan, organize, or lead structured programs of work, study, recreation, or social activities that enhance and build parent capacity for clients.
- Consult with supervisor to evaluate program delivery on an ongoing basis for continuous improvement of the program and to ensure that it reflects the mandate of Radiance Family Society.
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team, case conferencing to develop and implement intervention plan.
- Collaborate and work in partnership with external agencies regarding child/family’s needs.
- Be updated of policies, procedures, and mandates, of Radiance, ACSW and Government Guidelines.
- Establish and maintain ethical documentation as required of all phone calls or in-person contact with clients (i.e.: case notes, safety plans, assessment plans), community meetings, and work conducted with and/or on behalf of families.
- Attend staff meetings as requested, to keep the team updated on the work that is happening with clients.
- Responsible for accurate data collection and all funder reporting requirements.
- Provide supervision to students as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of the issues surrounding family violence.
- Maintain current knowledge of trauma informed care/practice.
- Maintain current standing with professional associations (i.e., Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), Association of Counselling Therapy in Alberta, etc.).
- Maintain Professional Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics that are in line with professional association.
- Ability to work consistently and collaboratively with a larger team, following the “one family, one plan” motto that Radiance works from.
- Provide coverage for other positions as required and/or requested.
- Participate in building capacity in the program.
- Support the supervision of volunteers and students.
- Participate in varied program special events for children and families.
- Other tasks as required for safe and healthy delivery of the daily programming in both the Children’s Centre and resident services children’s program.
- Promote Radiance Family Society’s image by acting as an ambassador of the agency.
- Other additional duties assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED**
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Child and Youth Care, or related field is an asset.
- 3+ years of experience working with parents and families in a related field.
- Theraplay Level 1/MIM and Group Theraplay training/certification from The Theraplay Institute an asset.
