**Job description**

Description:
This position operates a backhoe to utilize both the front bucket and back boom for a variety of functions piling aggregates, bringing material to the work area, excavating utilities or new installation and tamping around installation features. Pay is based on skill and experience.

**Responsibilities**:
The responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Operate equipment: Backhoe
- Ensure the safety of the crew
- Maintain the use of machinery and equipment.
- Must partake in daily hazard assessments and weekly toolbox meetings
- Take corrective action to mitigate immediate hazards
- Complete daily activity reports/daily logs.
- Work with project management to schedule and coordinate work tasks.
- Identify shallow utility locators when on the job site and ensure they are clearly understood where all buried utilities are.
- Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.

**Skills**:
Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
- Civil or Industrial Heavy Equipment Operator
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and OHS guidelines.
- Excellent organizational and leadership with the ability to communicate and report effectively.
- Must have extensive knowledge of parking lot grading, slab on grade prep, sidewalks, aprons and dolly pad prep. **Must be able to operate backhoe**:

- Must be able to jump in and fill a seat if required
- Recognizes and understands the safe operation of heavy equipment and material handling
- Good communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Must be a team player.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions.

**WHMIS, Ground Disturbance, and Orientations are provided

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $26.00-$35.00 per hour
