Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Building Systems Services, the Technical Assistant Intern assists in duties that are technical in nature and designed to help improving the performance of building automation, control, security, life safety and fire monitoring systems in civic buildings. The Technical Assistant Intern will be learning and assisting with computerized building monitoring and automation equipment (Johnson Controls METASYS, Distech Controls) used to control, operate and monitor HVAC systems, fire alarm systems, security systems, carbon monoxide detection systems, emergency generating systems, energy management systems, etc.

**As the **_Technical Assistant Intern,_** **you will**:

- Assist the Building System Technicians / Technologists with maintenance and repair of computerized Building Monitoring and Automation Equipment used to control, operate and monitor HVAC systems, fire alarm systems, security systems, carbon monoxide detection systems, emergency generation systems, energy management systems, etc. for the building inventory under the jurisdiction of Municipal Accommodations.
- Assist in the administration and coordination of projects related to computerized building monitoring and automation equipment.
- Update and organize drawings and reference materials.
- Assist in the design and construction of Building Automation controller panels.
- Develop and document procedures and instructions related to building automation and controls.
- Perform tasks related to customization and implementation of building automation; HMI/GUI, analytics, and energy management software.
- Provide support and training to Maintenance, Operations, Contract Administration and Administration staff where issues arise between Computerized Building Monitoring and Automation System and/or maintenance (for example project based via a project manager) or project service branch.
- Perform other related duties compatible with the classification and written policies and regulations of the Department.

**Your education and qualifications include**:

- Must be enrolled in a degree or diploma program in the following areas; Electrical, Mechanical Engineering/IEEQ; Electrical, Mechanical, or Instrumentation Technologies.
- Experience using design and drafting software.
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with fellow co-workers within a team environment including, contractors, consultants and customers.
- Verbal communication skills with the ability effectively communicate technical information to a variety of audiences.
- Written communication skills with the ability to prepare written reports.
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, AutoCad, MatLab or equivalent software programs.
- Experience with programming DDC or PLC controllers is desired.

**Conditions of employment**:

- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- The successful applicant(s) will be required to provide CSA approved personal protective safety boots (six (6) inches above the ankle) at their own expense.
