**ABOUT CHILD DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE**

Child Development Institute (CDI) is a leading children’s mental health agency in the City of Toronto offering a range of services to approximately 3,000 children ages 0‐12, youth ages 13-18 and their families each year. Our mission is to promote and support the healthy development of children and to strengthen the families and communities in which they live. We provide four streams of service to families in need: early intervention, family violence, healthy child development and specialized mental health services for children and youth with learning disabilities.

Child Development Institute is seeking a Community Child Worker to work with children/youth in the Learning Disabilities & Mental Health (LDMH) stream, Therapeutic Recreation Programs. These programs, which currently include Camp Towhee & Therapeutic Martial Arts, use group-based evidence informed interventions to serve children/youth ages 9-18 who require support with developing emotion regulation & awareness, attention & focus, social competence, self-esteem, and resilience.

**What the role is all about...**
1. Assesses, develops, and implements appropriate interventions for high needs, at risk children and their families both within CDI services as well as in their social context in schools and/or childcare. This may include groups: (i.e. social skills) and parent-child work.

2. Maintains the supervision, care and safety of clients during programming when responsible for the children’s primary care.

3. Monitors, re-evaluates, and modifies interventions as appropriate to ensure service effectiveness.
4. Liaises and consults with staff from other agencies and bodies providing service to the child and family.
5. Provides training, program development and consultation to schools, childcare centers and other care providers.
6. Processes intake, referrals for Groups/Program.
7. Recommends/refers clients to appropriate community support services.
9. May act as Service Coordinator for assigned cases in order to co-ordinate services provided by Child Development Institute and other agencies and documents planning and review conferences.
10. Participates in program planning and evaluation as required.

12. Provides follow-up contact after case termination in keeping with agency policy.
15. Any other duties as assigned.

**What we hope you will bring**
- CYW diploma and minimum of two years post diploma related experience.
- Experience working with childcare staff and schools and/or in a multi-disciplinary setting is an asset. Experience in working with high-risk families an asset.

**Skills, Attributes and Abilities**
- Knowledge and experience working with special needs children, particularly those with social
- emotional and behavioral difficulties, ages 0-12 in a community-based setting.
- Be a dedicated and flexible team player, able to interact with team members and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences

**Workplace Environment**
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Frequent travel to community-based locations.
- Required to have a flexible work week in order to meet client needs, community-based services
