The Building Services Group at the Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia’s 2,400 buildings and infrastructure assets across a wide range of clients. We maintain and support various government buildings including museums, political core buildings, office buildings, fishery centres, correctional centres, and justice centres.

Our team is growing, and we have an exciting opportunity available for a Manager of Construction and Maintenance Services. **About Our Opportunity**:
As the Manager of Construction and Maintenance, you will lead the division’s Construction and Preventive Maintenance trades team with a diverse portfolio of provincially owned buildings and their systems across Nova Scotia. As a seasoned trades professional, you provide strong operational leadership to our evolving work environment; effectively driving and supporting change, managing client relationships, and ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for all staff.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
You will lead a team of about 50 personnel, as well as a contingent of external trades contractors, who are engaged in many construction, repair and maintenance projects. We count on your effective leadership abilities to ensure infrastructure assets are well-maintained, client expectations are met, and operational objectives achieved. Using your expertise, you provide valuable input into the development and maintenance of our Preventative Maintenance Program in collaboration with our Asset Management Division.

You will also work closely with the Managers of Building Operations to ensure collaboration and communication with preventative maintenance as it relates to all operated assets within the province. This includes development and implementations of new strategies and procedures related to preventative maintenance.

You will be responsible for tracking and maintaining budgets related to the trade’s organization through projects and corrective maintenance items and reporting to senior management on a regular basis.

You will be required to support and develop complete work schedules for the trades as well as review, report and maintain these schedules accordingly.

Building relationships with staff and stakeholders is critical to your success; you support a diverse and engaged workforce through clearly defined performance targets, celebrated successes, and fostering collaborative work environments.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
You must hold a Red Seal Certification in your respective trade such as Carpentry, Electrician, Plumber etc. and have several years of experience managing a multi-disciplinary trades group in a building construction type setting. Other trades will be considered based on related experience.

Frequent travel across the province is a requirement of this position; as such, a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
