**SCOPE**:
The** Indigenous Sexual Assault Worker** is able to provide a full range of specialized mental health counseling and individualized and group services to support Indigenous women victimized by sexual violence and assault in Northwestern Ontario. Specialized services include support for and referral to external agency for serious emotional, psychological, and behavioral outcomes relating to sexual assault/violence. Services also include community development, consultation and coordination of educational/informational sessions.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- A minimum college diploma in Social Work, Indigenous Learning, or related field and a minimum of 3-5 years experience.
- Specialized training to assess and treat sexual abuse/sexual violence.
- Proven experience in and knowledge of victims’ issues (child abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence etc.)
- Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to create and maintain a welcoming, friendly and safe environment for Community Members.
- Strong communicator - excellent written, oral, facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of and relationships with other service agencies, ability to network and create/maintain these relationships.
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to plan ahead define measurable objectives and outcomes and meet objectives in a timely manner.
- Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and be able to improve performance through management feedback.
- A clear understanding and/or personal experience of violence as experienced by Indigenous women and their families are a significant asset.
- The ability to speak Ojibway and/or Oji-Cree is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience providing services to Indigenous families and/or communities.
- Excellent written and oral communications, with emphasis on keen listening and ability to effectively interpret verbal communications and needs of prospective Community Members.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office; competency working with other databases.
- Knowledge and understanding of current issues facing Indigenous Women and their families.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
- Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
- A cellular phone and internet access is required within this position.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
- Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
- _ONWA is committed on implementing measures to protect its community members, staff, and other stakeholders from COVID-19. As a result, ONWA has implemented a mandatory vaccination policy. Exemptions will be made for those with a valid medical exemption; proof of the exemption will be required._
