**About the Role**:
The Addiction Counsellor role is designed to provide support for people who are involved with provincial probation and parole and whose use of substances, either directly or indirectly, has resulted in them being involved with the criminal justice system. In this role, the Counsellor will provide counselling services, link individuals to additional supports, guide support plans, and assist participants in achieving their self-identified goals. Individuals are referred through the probation and parole offices in Guelph and Waterloo Region.

**Role Type: Full Time (contract). Monday-Friday (days)**

**Role Responsibilities**:
Counselling and Case Management
- Liaise with probation and parole services to coordinate services for clients
- Coordinate and deliver the following supportive services in a collaborative manner:

- Identify an individual’s immediate goals / needs and develop a short-term treatment plan that emphasizes service linkage and motivational enhancement
- Provide education regarding services available to address needs related to addiction, criminal offending, other complexities (i.e. ABI, mental health, developmental, etc.) and general well-being. Facilitate linkages to these services, making formal referrals as required.
- 1:1 supportive counselling and psycho-educational interventions that enhance and consolidate motivation for change in relation to addiction/concurrent issues and criminal offending and support health and well-being
- Crisis planning and intervention as required
- Utilize evidence-informed practices including (but not limited to) Motivational Interviewing, Stage-Matched Intervention, Trauma-Informed approaches, CBT and DBT)
- Discharge planning

Administration and Reporting
- Participate in program development activities as required
- Engage in program evaluation, data collection/input into electronic client information systems

Consultation and Relationship Building
- Work effectively and in collaboration with other STC programs and services as well as external service providers, the family / support networks of participants, and other stakeholders Develop positive relationships with justice and social service providers, seeking opportunities to support effective collaboration between these sectors where appropriate
- Complete education sessions related to various aspect of addiction as required

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of a BSW or other University Degree relevant to mental health, addiction or Social Services
- Registration with a professional college (i.e. OCSWSSW or CRPO) required
- Minimum one year of progressive experience in addictions or mental health; experience in concurrent disorders or trauma informed practice an asset
- Previous experience with justice-involved individuals preferred
- Lived experience related to addictions and/or mental health an asset
- CSC Clearance conducted by PWGS Canada
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR, Level C
- Valid G Driver’s License (G2 or G) and Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record
- Reliable vehicle and willing to transport program participants
- Required provide proof from Insurance provider of 1) at least $2 million in general liability and 2) have declared scope of vehicle use to Insurance provider, where transporting program participants is required (to be determined at the discretion of the Agency
