DESIGNATED EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR

Temporary Position

**Start Date**: Immediately

**Hours**: 35 hpw

**Location**: San Lorenzo Ruiz, Markham

**Position Summary**:
The Designated Early Childhood Educator works collaboratively with

the classroom teacher to plan and implement a full day early learning kindergarten program

through developmentally appropriate curriculum and play-based learning opportunities.

**Major Responsibilities**:
In collaboration with the classroom teacher plan and implement the full-day Early Learning

Kindergarten Program for children (4-5 years) to facilitate experiences that promote each

child’s physical, cognitive, language, emotional, social and creative development and wellbeing.

Lead children in developmentally appropriate activities e.g. working in small groups; telling

or reading stories; teaching songs; demonstrating use of simple musical instruments;
preparing craft materials and demonstrating use; providing opportunities for creative

expression through media of art, dramatic play, music and physical fitness; organizing field

trips etc. as approved by the classroom teacher.

Assist the classroom teacher with the design and maintenance of appropriate classroom setup eg. displays, organization of materials, learning centres etc.

Supervise and assist children with washroom routines, dressing and outdoor play.

Contribute to the formative assessment of children’s learning based on observations.

Communicate in a professional manner with children, parents and staff; demonstrating a

commitment to confidentiality.

Assist with maintenance of appropriate records for students e.g. health, attendance etc.

Attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings and professional development

activities as requested by the Principal.

Perform basic and non-intrusive medical interventions as needed and directed.

Provide general supervision to students - both indoor and outdoor.

Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
A Diploma in Early Childhood Education or a related field of study.

Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario.

**Experience**:
A minimum of 1-year experience working with young children in a daycare setting.

**Skills and Competencies**:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The ability to work as part of a team.

Strong organizational skills.

CPR and First Aid certification.

The above position is posted in accordance with CUPE 2331 Collective Agreement Article 12.01. The salary will be as per placement on the Salary Grid of the current CUPE 2331 Collective Agreement.
