**The opportunity**:
The University of Manitoba is looking for a Project Research Assistant. This position is responsible for conducting work on the records collections in the possession of the NCTR in order to allow for all research and names produced and identified by the Missing Children Phase 2 project to be investigated. The Project Research Assistant will also process and prepare sites of records that were not arranged, described, or otherwise processed during the TRC’s records acquisition process.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:
PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).
- Bachelor’s degree or completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with three years of directly related experience required.
- Graduate degree in archival studies preferred.
- Experience working with large data sets of highly sensitive personal information required.
- Experience in using large data sets to narrow down searches and make decisions on the accuracy of research is required.
- Research experience is required; research with Indigenous communities and Indigenous methodologies is highly desirable.
- Experience in using archival databases for the purpose of research is required.
- Previous experience working with Survivors, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, or Indigenous communities/organizations is required.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Competencies with Indigenous cultural awareness, knowledge, and protocols are required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other software’s is required.
- Superior organizational skills required.
- Superior writing and editing skills required.
- Excellent ability to anticipate and resolve problems.
- Strong critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to make sound independent judgments, and take initiative is required.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to co-ordinate workflow, prioritize work and handle multiple tasks at the same time is required.
- Ability to receive feedback, take and give direction and seek clarification as necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment is required.
- Ability to perform all duties in a professional and diplomatic manner, and able to maintain confidentiality is required.
- Indigenous language and/or French is an asset.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
- High energy level and a positive attitude, enjoy challenges, and adapt well to change.
- Must be personable and helpful.
- High level of commitment to the University of Manitoba community and the mission of Indigenous Engagement.
- Understanding of trauma-informed processes (trauma, triggers and effects on behaviour).
- Class 5 Drivers license is an asset.
