**ONE YEAR TERM POSITION - SEPT 5, 2023 TO JUNE 28, 2024**
Position primarily supports the Community Schools Program. A Community School serves as a hub for education, social, cultural, and
recreational activities by providing outreach services that provide resources, supports, and services with the hopes of improving
educational opportunities, experiences and outcomes for students and families.

**DUTIES**:

- Assist in prompting a welcoming school environment.- Connect and build positive relationships with all students, staff, and families.
- Establish and maintain a community kitchen.
- Plan for, and prepare, the daily free breakfast and snacks for any/all students.
- Ensure weekly grocery shopping is done to facilitate the breakfast and snack program.
- Develop partnerships and connections to the community.
- Organize and coordinate workshops for parents/community members on a variety of topics, including: nutrition, meal
- making and planning, parent education, Indigenous education, etc.- Identify, coordinate, and distribute resources.
- Help maintain home-school connections and support families in order to improve attendance.
- Accompany parents/families to meetings/appointments as required.
- Assists with school-community planning, evaluation of activities, and preparation of year-end reports.
- Function as a liaison between the community and the school.
- Work with teachers to offer nutrition advice to students.
- Work with the parent council on PAC sponsored events.
- Participate in events and activities related to the Community Schools Program.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- High school graduation or equivalent; Education Assistant certificate or related diploma or degree preferred.
- 2 years previous experience as a community connector or community liaison role in an educational environment.
- Valid class 5 Drivers Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Food Handler’s Certificate.
- Ability to work effectively with students experiencing behavioral difficulties.
- Ability to handle highly confidential information.
- Ability to be reliable, a self-starter and to work well with mínimal supervision.
- Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention/WEVAS and First Aid/CPR or the ability to complete in a reasonable timeframe.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, including experience as a group facilitator.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, student, parents, families and communities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include the supervision of after-school activities.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable to the Division.
