**Overview**

The Housing Support Worker collaborates with youth, staff from the Phoenix Centre for Youth (PCFY) and Phoenix Shelter, as well as landlords, and professionals in mental health, addictions, and other relevant services. The goal is to help youth access and sustain stable housing. The initial focus of this role will be facilitating shared accommodations for youth, optimizing housing opportunities based on income sources such as Employment Support and Income Assistance (ESIA) benefits.

**About Phoenix Centre for Youth (PCFY)**:
PCFY is a walk-in, street-front service for youth aged 16-24 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The centre provides a range of supports, including counselling, referrals to community resources, advocacy, health services, parenting support, food, showers, and laundry facilities.

**About Phoenix Youth Shelter**:
Phoenix Youth Shelter is a 20-bed emergency shelter offering crisis intervention, basic needs provision, and on-site health care for youth. The shelter supports young people in developing independent living skills, securing housing, exploring educational and career opportunities, accessing income assistance, and participating in recreational activities.

**Compensation**:$49,779 base annual salary, comprehensive group medical insurance plan, Employee and Family Assistance Program, RRSP contribution, three weeks annually of vacation in the first year and four weeks in the second year, generous sick leave, a generous paid holiday schedule, in-house training, and professional development opportunities.

**Hours of Work**: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with some flexibility for evening work.

**Location**: Phoenix Centre for Youth, Halifax, NS (Coburg Street).

**Reports to**: Manager, Phoenix Centre for Youth

**Duties**
- Adhere to Phoenix’s policies, procedures, and practice framework.
- Collaborate with youth and other Phoenix programs to develop effective housing plans addressing the unique challenges of homelessness.
- Work closely with staff from Phoenix Centre for Youth, including the Housing Support Worker and Trusteeship Worker, as well as Phoenix Youth Shelter, to assist youth in creating and implementing housing and goal plans.
- Manage a caseload of approximately 20-25 youth within the housing program, providing ongoing support.
- Build and maintain relationships with landlords and property managers across HRM.
- Develop and maintain a list of available housing options for youth transitioning to independent living through the housing program.
- Assist youth with moving into and out of apartments, including handling personal belongings, furniture, and ensuring the apartment is cleaned.
- Provide comprehensive support to youth, including intake, assessment, referral services, crisis intervention, eviction prevention, outreach, and mediation between youth and their families as it relates to housing support.
- Collaborate with other agencies on behalf of youth and participate in community committees, projects, or activities as needed.
- Work in partnership with other Housing Support Workers in HRM to ensure a coordinated approach.
- Advocate for youth who are at risk or homeless, addressing their needs, barriers, and strengths within the community.
- Deliver public education presentations about Phoenix and the issues surrounding homeless youth.
- Maintain accurate records, assessments, daily statistics, and case files, ensuring confidentiality is upheld.
- Collect and compile data on youth accessing housing support to help evaluate the outcomes of the housing initiative.
- Actively contribute to the development of Phoenix by participating in internal committees, projects, and activities.
- Assist in the ongoing development of programs and services to ensure high-quality, effective, and youth-centered support.
