**Job Summary**:
In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. The Dietitian, Biochemical Diseases (Metabolicis) provides clinical nutrition services to support the management of inborn errors of metabolism (i.e.) metabolic diseases. According to established guidelines, standards, policies and procedures for therapeutic nutritional management and working closely with the inter-disciplinary treatment team applies knowledge, skill and clinical experience to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nutrition goals and care plans for patients with metabolic diseases. Participates in research and in ongoing quality assurance and risk management programs.

**Duties/Accountabilities**:
2.Provides comprehensive nutrition counseling for patients and caregivers including training in the use of specialized formulas and food preparation; conducts workshops and seminars, and prepares written guidelines.

3.Completes and maintains appropriate, related records for activities performed including patients charts, workload statistics, formula requisitions, menus and patient care data bases (e.g.) CBORD. Maintains and updates patient files according to program guidelines.

br0Inresponse to biochemical laboratory data and in consultation with the treatment team, monitors and adjusts nutrition care plans, diets, and formulae. Consults with the patient, family and/or caregivers, physicians and other health care professionals regarding the patient’s response to the nutrition care plan as appropriate.

5.Provides individual and group teaching sessions, education and support to parents, caregivers and patients.

6.Facilitates implementation of nutrition care plans by communicating food tolerances/preferences and diet information to designated food service staff. Provides input on diet writing guidelines, diet criteria, alternate lists and menu selections based on the requirements of patient population.

7.As part of interdisciplinary team, participates in community outreach activities including clinics and presentations at conferences, seminars, and/or workshops.

8.Provides workshops/in-service education programs and written resources based on the latest clinical experience and research to other health care professionals including dietitians, physicians, nurses, social workers, students etc.

9.Provides input to department and program meetings; participates in relevant and related hospital and community based committees, activities and projects.

10.Participates in the planning, development and evaluation of clinical research proposals, projects and surveys regarding the management of the metabolic disease and related therapies, by collecting and analyzing data and writing for publication.

11.Assists the Professional Practice Leader in evaluating the program operation and establishing goals and objectives from a clinical nutrition perspective by helping to review caseload, treatment trends, statistics, etc.

12.Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
**Education, Training and Experience**:

- Graduation from an academic program in dietetics approved by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
- Completion of a Dietitians of Canada accredited Dietetic Internship.
- Full registration in the College of Dietitians of British Columbia.
- Three (3) years related pediatric experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

- Comprehensive knowledge of biochemical pathways and human metabolism.
