**Title**:Metallurgical Technician**

**Position Summary**: The Metallurgical Technician is responsible for laboratory-based tasks, including sampling, process testing, measuring, recording and analyzing results, while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. The Metallurgical Technician carries out fundamental tests as part of the metallurgical team. The incumbent will be responsible for recording observed data and maintaining a safe and tidy laboratory environment.

**Responsibilities**:

- Perform laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data for metallurgical investigations.
- Record and report data from all analyses and tests in the prescribed time and form.
- Carry out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
- Prepare samples.
- Construct, maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment.
- Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
- Record and interpret results to present to Metallurgists.
- Follow and ensure strict safety procedures and safety checks.
- Make detailed observations; analyze data and interpret results.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory levels for laboratory supplies.
- Write reports, summaries, and protocols regarding experiments.
- Perform limited troubleshooting and calibration of instruments.
- Log in all samples from the plant or special request for routine, non-routine and other tests.
- Prepare and send samples for third party analysis.
- Organize all lab reagents and update inventory records.
- Make call for information from field and other company. Communicate with third party calibration.
- Prepare blind test samples and record maintenance.
- Responsible for lab cleaning, sample disposal, monthly inventory check, safety duties etc.
- Other duties as assigned

**Requirements**:

- Completion of a laboratory technology program or equivalent.
- Must have a strong understanding of WHMIS and MSDS.
- Must be knowledgeable in health, safety and environmental standards.
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques, terminology, equipment and materials.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of chemical and physical testing and analyses including the preparation of materials, equipment and samples.
- Strong deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of data processing.
- Ability to use and maintain laboratory equipment for standard physical testing.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
