**DESCRIPTION**:
To support the Locksmith with mechanical and electronic access control requirements for Kingston Health Sciences Centre and Providence Care sites. This role will lead and/or support all mechanical access control installations and maintenance.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of KHSC strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered care and engagement in all we do.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Installs, creates, repairs, finishes and services mechanical or electrical locking devices, including key cutting and disassembling locks as required, such as filing cabinet, padlocks and door locks.
- Operates different types of key cutting machines, cuts/duplicates required keys
- Performs duties in accordance with health & safety and life safety (fire code) legislation
- Maintains databases for all lock cores and key codes
- Assists in the installations, inspections, repair and maintenance on all building access control & security systems. Maintaining a record of all service work performed.
- Interfaces with management and staff throughout the hospital, contractors and suppliers to expedite the resolution and follow-up of security & life safety needs.
- Responds to emergency call-ins, stand-by, shift rotation and overtime, as required.
- Assists other personnel as required or may be called on to do other duties as required.
- The Employee will adhere to the worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit procedures at all times. Where possible, take corrective action to address a hazard, otherwise report the unresolved hazard, dangerous circumstance, unsafe situation to self, other co-workers or the community, to their supervisor. Should the employee suffer a workplace injury or illness, he/she will immediately advise their supervisor; actively participate in identifying and resolving the underlying cause(s) and participates in early and safe return to work as per Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.
- Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KHSC and PC policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct. Complies with KHSC and PC workplace expectations and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations of the KHSC Be Real policy.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Grade 12 diploma (Technical Program)
- Ontario Certificate of Qualification as General Carpenter (5 year apprenticeship - 2 year educational component)
- Completion of an approved Locksmith certificate
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Carpentry position within the last 4 years in a hospital or equivalent setting, including experience in the independent installation of electronic access control hardware, creation/installation of cores, cylinders and pinning of locks, and metal fabrication.
- Demonstrated understanding of Codes and Standards (Building Code, Fire Code, NFPA, CAN/ULC, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics and operational/product manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully at all levels both in person, over the phone, and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector check required.
