***About Safe Software**:
Safe Software is the creator and developer of FME — the data integration platform with the best support for spatial data worldwide. Over 10,000 organizations around the world use FME in industries like AEC, government, utilities, and transportation to maximize the value of their data.

Founded in 1993, Safe is headquartered in Surrey, BC with over 200 team members and counting. We’re always looking for talented individuals with diverse backgrounds who are determined to learn and grow. Are you ready to join the team?

**Practicum Objective**:
CAD and GIS are crucial tools in many industries, such as AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction), yet integrating these two systems can be complex due to differences in data formats and system architectures. At Safe Software, we aim to bridge this gap with the power of FME

Many of our customers depend on FME for our CAD and GIS integrations; however, many of our resources no longer reflect the extent of our newest features and integrations. In this practicum, you will focus on exploring how customers integrate CAD and GIS with FME. You will create and update demos and tutorials, review and expand on known industry use cases, and provide product improvement feedback. By the end of this practicum, you will have gained hands-on experience in CAD-GIS integrations, content development and contributed to the broader FME user community, ensuring that customers can easily leverage the newest systems, formats, and features in their workflows.

**Practicum Deliverables**:
At Safe Software, we love when information is made more accessible and this practicum is no different. We want you to share what you’ve learned with both our team and our customers. In this practicum, you’ll have the opportunity to undertake some of the following:

- Create content demonstrating how FME can solve CAD-GIS integration challenges. This may include:

- Identify areas in our existing resources that require updating
- Identify gaps in our existing resources, with latest industry trends and challenges that FME can help solve
- Creating and updating articles with demos for our knowledge base,
- videos that explain these concepts,
- demos that our team will use to promote FME to potential customers.
- Identify common repeatable tasks for CAD-GIS workflows:

- Create Knowledge Base articles/tutorials that teach our users how to accomplish these tasks using FME,
- Create custom transformers to publish on the FME Hub where possible.
- Identify product improvements that would help our customers with their CAD-GIS integrations:

- Improvements to existing reader/writer and transformers,
- Suggest new transformers that could be developed to help simplify common tasks.
- Deliver presentations to the Safe Software staff of your research, recommendations, and outcomes.
- Publish a blog article describing your practicum experience.

**Learning Outcomes**:
This practicum will build your skills as a GIS professional as you will gain a deeper understanding of day-to-day efforts and challenges within the AEC sector. Upon completion of this practicum, you will:

- Build your technical skills in FME, the data integration platform with the best support for spatial data.
- An understanding of common CAD-GIS integration workflows, and a deeper knowledge of CAD and GIS data structures and schemas.
- Gain hands-on experience building solutions for the most common CAD-GIS related challenges.
- Improve your ability to write and present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Develop communication and teamwork skills as you work directly with our technical teams at Safe, customers, and Partners.

**Qualifications and Skills**:
Our team is open to collaborating with individuals with all levels of experience in GIS and software. Some skills that will be beneficial to this practicum may include:
**Required Skills**:

- Experience with Esri ArcGIS products and formats (i.e. Geodatabases)
- Knowledge of common data challenges, such as schema management, topology, validation, and spatial and attribute filtering

- AEC industry
