Copyright Specialist/Quality Assurance - Administrative Assistant 1 (AESES)
New Budget-Funded Project Full-Time
35.00 hours/week Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Salary Range: $26.32 - $36.69 per hour ($47,902.40 - $66,775.80 per annum) Proposed Start Date: April 3, 2023
Trial/Probation Period: 840.00 work hours

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Independently researching appropriate web-based images, graphics, video clips, and other digital materials for use within courses; ensuring adherence to posted terms of use.
- Negotiating the videos and streaming rights process, receiving contracts and approvals, ensuring appropriate offices are involved (legal and central administration).
- Directing the copyright process by advising content providers, instructional designers, and media specialists when course development is in progress.
- Developing, maintaining, and distributing accurate copyright clearance guidelines and procedures to Design & Production staff as well as Content Providers.
- Obtaining permission when required; recording and managing all records pertaining to copyright compliance and approval; tracking all costs associated with clearance, preparing purchase requisitions, etc.
- Working with and maintaining relationship with the central Copyright Office.
- Participate as a member of the University’s Copyright Committee.
- Develop and Maintain copyright records for the Division.
- Maintain library of copyrighted materials used in courses, digital and hard-copies.
- Reviewing all EE online courses to ensure copyright compliance is upheld.
- Remaining current with copyright laws.
**- **Ordering, distributing, and maintaining an inventory of textbook desk copies.
- Proactively work with textbook buyers and publishers to ensure texts are not moving into a new edition during or shortly after the development phase of the course.
- Regularly contact publisher’s representatives to request desk copies of new editions of textbooks.
- At the request of instructional designers, conduct searches within publisher’s websites for resources that may be appropriate for EE course offerings.
- Maintain Desk copy inventory and records—ordering and purchasing texts when necessary.
**- **Quality assurance in relation to course production and course delivery; for example, link checking, course master reviews, etc.
- Minor copy-editing tasks.

**MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING**:

- An undergraduate degree is required, with a preference given to Law and the Humanities.

**EXPERIENCE**:

- A minimum of 1 years’ experience in an academic or professional context is required.
- Advanced knowledge of copyright laws and experience with its administration is strongly preferred.
- Experience in course development, course revision, course production, project management, and working with a multidisciplinary team is an asset.
**- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.**

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:

- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills are required.
- Strong written and verbal communication and strong reading comprehension required.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Strong mediation, administrative, and problem solving skills are required.
- Must have the ability to work with and direct team members within a complex environment.
- Must have the ability to complete assignments independently, work with mínimal supervision, and adapt to change.
- Must have the ability to provide excellent client relations and maintain high standards of quality.
- Must be able to handle stress well.
**- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.**
