Position Overview:
This leader will be responsible for participating in and aiding in overseeing the maintenance, operation and management of the golf course and associated grounds and facilities. He/she is also responsible for aiding in all facets of staff management within the department. The person in this position will be responsible for developing relationships interdepartmentally and with suppliers, contractors and consultants. In the absence of the Assistant Superintendent, he/she is expected to make decisions and fill those responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions:

- Make recommendations to the Head Superintendent on the daily condition of the golf course.
- Work within SMGCC’s team policy both internally and at the management level.
- Practice and enforce all aspects of SMGCC’s Golf Course Maintenance and Health & Safety Policy Manuals.
- Assume management role should the Superintendent be off site or in meetings.
- Help train staff on all machinery, including safety procedures.
- Maintain buildings, equipment and property in a professional manner.
- Regularly and accurately contribute to the Superintendent's pesticide and fertilizer management practices stressing IPM.

Additional Job Functions:

- Oversee a comprehensive preventive maintenance program including all preventative maintenance and repair work.
- Instruct and/or train golf course maintenance colleagues regarding preventive maintenance and the proper cleaning and safe operation of equipment.
- Prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work.
- Spot check equipment for performance on the course, make emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and service or supervise servicing of equipment prior to use.
- Communicate all problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Superintendent.

**Requirements**:

- Turfgrass education degree or diploma preferred, but not required.
- IPM certification preferred, but not required.
- Available for work every day, at discretionary hours (48+ hours/week in peak season).
- Approach responsibilities in an organized and energetic manner.

Skills/Abilities:

- Working knowledge of grounds equipment and automotive apparatuses.
- Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
- Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records.
- Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.
- Ability to move heavy objects.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 8 months

**Salary**: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
