BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.
**BIOVECTRA Inc.** has an opening for a **Formulation Scientist. **This is a permanent, full-time position located in **Charlottetown, PEI.**
- Undertaking projects involving the development, optimization and characterization of novel or generic lipid or polymer-based drug formulations.
- Performing lab scale formulations using various processes e.g., microfluidics, extrusion, and high shear techniques
- Carrying out literature searches as appropriate to understand currently known methods, designing new approaches as required, and preparing research plans.
- Implementing process improvements and troubleshooting.
- Understanding and evaluating analytical methods suitable for in process formulation testing and final product release.
- Preparing and presenting research findings to internal and external stakeholders, writing technical reports.
- Following the company’s quality standards (quality management system procedures and cGMP regulations).
- Training and supervising research assistants or summer students as needed.
- Interacting with cross functional team members and external collaborators
- Complying with approved safety practices for the laboratory and manufacturing facilities.
- Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Sciences Physical Organic Chemistry or related fields with a strong working knowledge in pharmaceutical formulation development.
- Minimum of 2 years industrial formulation experience, preferably in novel drug delivery, nanotechnology and complex injectables in a cGMP environment.
- An understanding of physical, organic, and analytical chemistry, and the fundamental aspects of the drug pharmacokinetics considered an asset.
- Previous experience in microencapsulation techniques and hands-on experience in formulation characterization techniques are required.
- Strong background in analytical techniques including: IR, UV, GC, HPLC, MS, and particle analysis.
- Working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, and the ability to conduct online database searches.
- Experience in Quality by Design (QbD) and Design of Experiments (DOE) an asset.

**Entry Salary: $65,000**
