The Municipality of North Cowichan (population 31,900) is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Southern Vancouver Island, between Nanaimo and Victoria. Our communities of Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay and the South End are home to a multitude of artistic, cultural and outdoor recreational activities. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining, protecting and cleaning the facilities by performing a variety of custodial, grounds upkeep, and general/minor maintenance duties. This work include ongoing upkeep, disinfection of surfaces, change room/washroom hygiene and the operation of cleaning equipment (sprayers, floor scrubbers, polishers and burnishers). The purpose of the role is to keep the Cowichan Aquatic Centre in a clean and orderly condition while also positively interacting with the public to ensure the safety of our patrons when necessary. Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time.

**Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities**:

- Completion of Grade 12.
- Pool Operators Level I or higher certificate.
- Building Service Worker certificate.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required.
- Knowledge of the operation of a variety of equipment used in the custodial care and landscaping care of a facility.
- Knowledge of the theory of cleaning for health.
- Demonstrable theory and practical skills and abilities related to the delivery of customer service, facility cleaning/ sanitation and disinfection routines and practices, and basic landscape maintenance.
- Demonstrable keyboard skills and the ability to work within a Windows networked environment, including the practical use of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook and Excel, or comparable programs.
- Working knowledge of and commitment to WorkSafeBC regulations and safety procedures and other related regulatory requirements as related to the safe operation of an aquatic and fitness facility.
- Ability to communicate, establish and maintain working relationships and communicate well with other staff and the general public.
- Ability to do data entry, write simple work procedures and maintain basic records.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to perform physical custodian and maintenance task and duties.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, evenings and shifts.
