**Position Summary**: The support worker position provides support and education to the clients during all phases of treatment and provides advanced support for administrative duties and tasks.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Orientate, facilitate and reinforce client’s involvement in addiction and mental health treatment
- Support activation and exposure programming including attending groups, sign out clients and accompanying clients in the community as required
- Provide brief, supportive counselling and health teaching to residents, on recovery and lifestyle issues through all stages of recovery
- Maintain a therapeutic environment conducive to the client learning productive patterns of living
- Assist in the admission and discharge of residents
- Attends to and intervenes on any resident safety issues that are observed
- Ensure there are appropriate supplies and equipment to meet the needs of the program, including administrative tasks, such as photocopying
- Maintain professional standards and participate in in-service and continuededucational activities
- Adheres to the behaviors outlined in our polices and procedures that promote resident and staff safety
- Demonstrates strong communication skills and professional boundaries
- Able to complete discharge summaries in a timely manner
- Clinical scheduling
- Preparation and update of resident binders
- Organize resident admission packages
- Create resident lists for meals, groups and fitness structures
- Keep up to date progress notes as required
- Crisis management
- Monitors all resident activities when counselling staff are not on the premises and ensures that such activities are conducted according to the Resident Responsibilities and/or the general operational procedures of the facility
- Ensures Residents and facility are secure after all scheduled daily activities have been completed in the evening
- Immediately notifies the appropriate on call management staff or Medical Directorin the event of any emergency or unusual circumstance
- Documents in the appropriate progress notes in KIPU of any significant occurrences and a general impression of activities during the shift
- Participates in case consultation and treatment coordination with other member of multi-disciplinary team
- Administers first aid (if trained) in case of emergency while waiting for medical staff and/or emergency professionals to arrive
- Performs other related duties as requested by the Support Staff Supervisor
**_ Red Deer Recovery Community operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and shifts may be changed tomeet the needs of the facility. Flexibility is required in this role._**
**Experience and Qualifications**:
- Must have a calming presence and the ability to self regulate while supporting residents
- Bachelors in psychology, counselling or other related field
- Trauma informed training/experience an asset
- CBT and DBT training an asset
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong working knowledge of KIPU
- Ability to type a minimum of 45 wpm
- Advanced ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Must be able to understand and follow directions
- Must have good hearing and eyesight.
- Valid First Aid/CPR Level C.
- Clear criminal record check including vulnerable sector check through the Ministry of Justice.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License in good standing.
