**OVERVIEW**
The Childcare Worker works as a member of Camrose Women’s Shelter team to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of children experiencing family violence. They provide support to children in shelter through coordination and implementation of in-house and community activities. They also encourage and promote healthy parent-child interaction through modelling and providing information and support to mothers/guardians.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
A Childcare Diploma or Certificate, experience working with children, first aid and CPR training, current Criminal Records check and Child Welfare Intervention check.
**RELATIONSHIPS**
The Child Care Worker establishes and maintains healthy professional relationships with the women and children residing at Camrose Women’s Shelter. They act as a support and role model for the family. They establish and maintain professional collegial relationships with all staff, volunteers and practicum students at the shelter.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Children’s Activities**
- Plan, coordinate and implement age-appropriate summer programming for children, with the support of FSC, CCW and OCYCC. Activities can include crafts, outings, sports, exercise, games and learning opportunities.
- Encourage parent/guardian to join children in activities.
- Attend groups with moms and children that are provided by outside agencies.
**Nutritious Snacks**
- Organize and provide healthy snacks for children as needed.
**Child Care**
- Child care is provided by the Child Care Workers/Family Support Coordinator using mandated guidelines to determine availability.
- Awareness of Child Abuse Concerns
- Be aware of symptoms of child abuse and follow Policy and Procedure reporting requirements.
- Immediately report concerns to the Family Support Coordinator or alternate.
**Housekeeping Duties/Chores**
- Care and maintenance of children’s equipment and recreation area (strollers, games, puzzles, toys, youth area, play area and backyard).
- Weekly cleaning of playrooms -sterilization of toys and living room bassinet, and empty family support shredding box.
- Monthly cleaning-spray down back yard toys, ground, clean up garbage/leaves. Clean and remove garbage from strollers. Clean and wipe down teen area furniture and floors.
- Daily cleaning-clean downstairs bathroom, sanitize doorknobs/light switches, empty garbage, tidy teen area and sanitize change table.
- Other cleaning as required by household.
**Administrative Responsibilities**:
- Document observations in Outcomes Tracker Database, client pass-on, activities, concerns and needs in client files.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions and case consultations as appropriate.
- Record hours worked on a timesheet.
- Arrange for childcare and outing consent forms to be completed when required.
**Other Service Responsibilities**:
- Maintain confidentiality as expressed in the policy of the Society.
- Always act in accordance with all policies and practices of the Shelter and the Society.
- Maintain positive, courteous, and professional demeanor when representing the shelter in the community.
**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 weeks
**Salary**: $18.00 per hour
