Bedford, Canada Municipal Group of Companies Full time

R3 Environmental Systems, part of the Municipal Group of Companies, is building an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Facility and is looking for a dedicated individual with a hands-on practicality and knowledge of basic chemistry and laboratory skills to work in their laboratory as a Chemist. This is a full-time position.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:
Carry out literature searches to evaluate currently known analytical methods and preparing analytical research and development plans.
Develop modern analytical methodologies and SOPs for various analytical techniques such as gas chromatography, UV-VIS, Microtox, etc.
Collect, prepare, and test water samples using various techniques such as GC/FID/PID, Hach DR6000, Microtox, Dexsel, distillations, etc.
Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot analytical equipment.
Write quality control procedures, protocols, and reports.
Maintain accurate, real-time records of all laboratory activities using an electronic notebook detailing all data measured, observations, and steps performed.
Maintain quality control records and perform quality review of data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of results.
Prepare and test analytical standards, blanks, etc.
Maintain and use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to record and document all analytical activities during the processing of samples.
Collect, analyze, and process raw data using standard software and techniques; communicate results both verbally and in writing.
Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting pilot plant studies and supplier trials.
Recommend process and material improvements to achieve superior results.
Maintain laboratory safety standards and take a leadership role in plant safety.
Establish an environment, influence behavior, and manage systems to help people believe zero injuries and incidents are possible.
Additional duties assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisor’s request.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
Bachelor of Science, Chemistry
Possess a general knowledge of chemistry fundamentals with the ability to understand terminology and principals in order to comply with analytical methods
Relevant lab experience in a regulated environment
Knowledge of analytical methodology including UV-VIS, GC/PID/FID, IR, and KF
Working knowledge of computer software including work processing, spreadsheets, online chemical database searches, etc.
Ability to present technical material in an understandable manner
Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite
Strong oral and written communication skills
Self-motivated and goal oriented
Must be a team player and possess good interpersonal skills
Comply with all safety policies and procedures
Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
Strong multi-tasking, organization, and planning skills
Maintain a clean working environment
Willingness to work extended hours
A valid Class 5 driver’s license
Reliable Transportation to and from work is required
