As the AVP Marine Underwriting you will be driving the growth and development of Gallagher's Marine portfolio, owning the full underwriting process end-to-end including; managing the underwriting process for new clientele, overseeing compliance to binding authority framework, market/capacity management and management reporting for the business unit.
**How You Will Affect the Business**:
- Participate and manage the development and execution of Excess Underwriting Marine Underwriting strategy
- Develop marine products on behalf of Excess Underwriting. Products/coverages to include: Vessel Coverage, Marine Liability Coverage, Pier, Wharfs, Docks, Marina, Cargo Coverage
- Underwrite profitable new and renewal business in accordance with underwriting guidelines and underwriting authority:
- Prepares quotations and proposals on new business.
- Makes recommendations on risks which exceed authority using established referral procedures.
- Orders Loss Control surveys, as applicable.
- Develop business cases to obtain market capacity and define product, wording and pricing guidelines in partnership with the market(s):
- Develops new Product ideas and tracks competitor activity.
- Manage resource needs and team(s) in response to business growth, including, creating business cases for hiring resources.
- Analyze trends and scenario plans from which portfolio strategies can be developed and implemented.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients and markets and internal Excess/Gallagher employees.
- Manages and monitor broker and underwriter performance, including submissions, hit ratios and other quality measures.
- Meet all file documentation standards and comply with underwriting authority level.
- Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets.
- Negotiate price and terms and conditions.
- Proactively manage capacity.
- Maintain accurate underwriting files as required by markets.
- Participate / contribute to key projects.
- Training and development of underwriters.
- Referral point for other underwriters.

**Education and Experience**
- College or University Degree or commensurate experience required.
- 10+ years experience and a proven track record in underwriting.
- In depth understanding marine products and underwriting strategies as well as understanding of regional / local insurance markets and competitor landscape.
- Demonstrable, established relationships with brokers and marine insurance markets.
- Insurance Designations an asset (CAIB, CRM etc.) with a strong preference for the CIP.
**Work Enviornment & Location**: Hybrid - this role has the flexibility to significant remote flexibility, however ideally will consider our Markham, Ontario office it's home office.
**Travel**:Some travel for marketing and/or training purposes, including attendance at national industry events.
