**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under the general direction of the Chair of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (M&AE) the incumbent supervises, coordinates, and controls the operation of the M&AE Machining Laboratory; organizes and supervises the work and development of machinists; coordinates machining resources using efficiency tools like Qreserve, Outlook and Excel; reviews and ultimately approves engineering drawings, and provides feedback to students regarding manufacturability of their designs; provides instruction and laboratory demonstration to students in manufacturing courses; supervises the instruction of students in the Machining Laboratory (which includes 3D printing facilities) by designated technologists and teaching assistants; plans, develops, and maintains facilities and equipment inventories for the Machining Laboratory; provides procedures for Machining Laboratory services to faculty, teaching assistants, students and external users, remains current on safety regulations and procedures; and performs other related duties as directed by the Chair of M&AE.

**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

- Thorough knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of the mechanical and aerospace engineering profession, including related engineering, technical, administrative, and operational functions.
- Understanding of manufacturing techniques and engineering drawings used to communicate designs for manufacturability.
- Skills in planning, organizing, and directing engineering and technical activities.
- Problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Effective and efficient use of financial, human, and physical resources.
- Ability to supervise staff effectively and foster an atmosphere of mutual respect with supervised employees, colleagues, faculty, and students.

**Education and Experience**:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

- Four-year university degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related Engineering discipline.
- At least 6 years’ experience in engineering and technical support, preferably with a significant portion of this experience within an academic university environment.
