**Pre-Employment Training Instructor**
**Division**: Literacy and Basic Skills Program, Employment and Training Services
**Work Status**: Full-Time
**Location**: Durham Region (all offices as required)
**About the Role**:
Reporting to the Director of Employment and Training Services, the Instructor will work closely with the Employment and Training teams to design curriculum and deliver pre-employment training to individuals that support the development and growth of foundational soft skills, critical thinking, financial literacy, business fundamentals, computer and technology use, and labour market sector specific training.
The role will support and help the Employment and Training teams to coordinate the transition of individuals from Pre-Employment training services to Employment Services and vice versa.
**You’ll be working on things like**:
**Service User Support**
- Conduct initial, on-going and exit educational assessments to determine adult literacy levels, milestones, and goal attainment.
- Develop curriculum and facilitate teaching 1:1 in-person or virtually or, to a group with learning objectives and outcomes based on learner goals, labour market demand, employer needs, and funder requirements.
- Demonstrate advanced digital technology, reading, writing and math skills and an understanding of OALCF levels 1, 2 and 3 to effectively guide learners and develop relevant curriculum.
- Foster a positive learning environment for service users of diverse socio, economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Develop strategies for facilitating pre-employment training to individuals with complex needs.
- In consultation with the employment and training teams, evaluate processes and implement methods to gather service user feedback.
- Alongside the teams you will support or conduct one-to-one intake and assessments to determine life stability supports, employment and training goals and identify steps to educational attainment or employment.
- Plan and deliver workshops such as Pathways to Post secondary, Essential Skills, Digital Technology, Better Jobs Ontario or any related employment and education informational workshops or workplace orientation sessions to assist service users to develop skills and strategies required to meet the expectations of work, education and/or training.
- Support the Employment and Training teams to deliver workshops where skills deficiencies might pose a challenge for service users such as Smart Serve, Basic Food Safety, Better Jobs Ontario, and computer one-to-one training.
**Case Management/Documentation**
- Maintains up-to-date case notes, progress reports and service user files with clear rationale for methods and interventions used, and statistical documentation in accordance with the program requirements. Must meet quality standards and provide accurate and timely data entry and filing procedures to the database.
- Use Cognitive Skills counselling or other counselling models to evaluate education and employment readiness, negotiate readiness for change and develop a suitable action plan (where required)
- In consultation with Employment and Training teams, advise/clarify educational goal paths and provide relevant pre-employment instruction based on the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework (OALCF)
- Work together with both the Employment and Training teams to ensure coordination between programs for participants and utilizing available resources. Participate in on-going case conferencing meetings with Employment and Training teams to support service determination needs.
- Complete and track follow up interventions with service users as required.
**Community, Administration & Other**
- In consultation with the teams, market JHS training programs in the community in accordance with program marketing and outreach plan
- Establish relationships with employers or sector associations in Durham Region to determine labour market needs and training opportunities.
- Work in partnership with LBS community and Employment Service Network
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with other community services agencies and employers.
- Maintain statistical data relative to program objectives including service user and contractual information; participate in program record keeping in an accurate and auditable manner in accordance with established program procedures (Excel)
- Achieve all services outcomes and targets as developed by the funder and agency.
- Make referrals to community agencies as deemed appropriate.
- Ensure that all services are provided within the standards of service maintained by JHS and consistent with the agency’s philosophical beliefs.
