Assessment accommodation
**Duties**:
Conduct research on the elucidation of mechanisms that confer resistance to ACCase
- and ALS-inhibiting herbicides in Canadian wild oat (Avena fatua) populations.
Specific duties will include:
- Growing plants under controlled-environment
- treating plants with herbicides
- plant sampling
- nucleic acid extraction
- PCR
- Sequencing
- library preparation
- data analyses
- Diagnostic test development
**Work environment**:
The student will conduct graduate research in-person at the CFIA Ottawa Plant Laboratory (Fallowfield) in the laboratory managed by Dr. Leonardo Galindo Gonzalez while conducting academic studies at Carleton University. This laboratory specializes in molecular identification of plant species. The research will be primarily lab-based and consist of molecular diagnostics of herbicide resistance in wild oat.

Currently enrolled or will be enrolled by the date of appointment in MSc or PhD program at the Carleton University with a specialization in Biology.
