**Next Environmental - Environmental Field Technician**

**Burnaby, BC**

Define your career and your future.

At Next Environmental Inc., we are specialists in Contaminated Sites investigation and remediation. We focus on properly understanding our clients' business goals and how we can help them navigate the technical complexities of municipal, provincial and federal regulations towards the goal of facilitating transactions and achieving regulatory compliance.

We strive to remove ourselves from the typical engineering firm model and see ourselves similar to a fast-growing start-up company. One of our core philosophies is that we build the company around the team members we have. At Next, you'll have the opportunity to define the direction of your career with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to guide you and launch your career in the environmental consulting industry.

**The Role**:
Next Environmental is currently seeking a **Environmental Field Technician** to join our team based in Burnaby. Don't worry about working alone, because you will have a network of team members to help you along the way who have extensive experience in the field Your main job responsibilities are:

- Carrying out fieldwork (i.e. groundwater monitoring, K-test data collection and analysis, soils sampling through test pit excavations or borehole drilling, subcontractor supervision, and drilling investigations, etc.) or office assignments under the direction of more experienced scientists and technical employees
- Preparing and coordinating project documentation, subcontractors, and equipment for field programs
- Filing and managing all project-related field notes including some data entry and assistance with report preparation
- Identifying and reporting potential and existing site hazards, near loss incidents, and loss incidents
- Maintaining excellent field notes and collecting and handling soil and groundwater samples
- Preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to you, Next's clients, employees, and the public
- Supervising subcontractors for ground disturbance and utility location, surveying, borehole drilling, groundwater monitoring well installation, and test pit excavation
- Overseeing remedial contractors including directing remedial excavations, waste tracking and progress reporting
- Performing and recording work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements

**The Qualifications**:

- A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work with little supervision, but also thrive in a team environment;
- Strong awareness of health and safety issues and a safety conscious attitude;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with particular attention to detail and accuracy of field notes;
- A valid driver's license
- Excited about the prospect of working outdoors, at different locations across Western Canada, which would require some physical exertion; and
- Ability to lead and direct subcontractors effectively.

**The Perks**:

- Collaborative and innovative work is our philosophy. Next Environmental Inc. thrives in exploring how things can be done differently to meet, and often exceed, our client’s and project goals. We encourage you to provide input on our processes and procedures, as all ideas are worth exploring;
- We offer a competitive salary that will constantly be re-evaluated based on merit and market conditions;
- Benefits include full medical/dental coverage, 3 weeks paid vacation, banked time/overtime based on company policy, group RRSP contributions, and other nice perks such as extra days off at Christmas/New Years with years worked;
- Variety of team events, such as tailgate BBQs, potlucks, wine and paint nights, trips to the driving range, pet meetups, and more;
- We embrace the hybrid work environment. All team members will be set up to work from home or remotely, from day one. However, we would also love to work with you in person at our pet-friendly collaborative workspace, fully stocked with snacks (and beer for those Friday afternoon wrap-up sessions).
