**About Us**:
The Faculty of Social Science is a research-intensive academic unit that endeavors to deliver high impact learning. Undergraduate students at every level benefit are educated to think critically and make a difference globally.

**Responsibilities**:
The staff in the Academic Advising Office work as a team to provide administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the Faculty. The Counselling Assistant provides administrative support in the office, primarily for the undergraduate student functions under the Academic Advisors but may be called upon to provide support in other areas. The workload is dictated by both the formal position requirements and by day-to-day requests from the Academic Advisors and other team members. The Counselling Assistant handles a wide variety of tasks and deals courteously and efficiently with frequent interruptions and a minimum of supervision. All members of the Faculty of Social Science administrative staff are expected to work as both team leaders and team members as the task requires.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- 2 year Community College diploma in a business related field
- 3 year Bachelor of Arts in a Social Science field preferred
- Experience:
- 1 year of administrative experience in an office environment providing customer service
- Experience with the cyclical nature of the academic year preferred
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft Higher Education for student academic records for student follow-ups
- Ability to index and input all paper documentation for quick access by office and Dean’s Office
- Familiarity with Cascade preferred
- Calm demeanor to react well in high-pressure and emotional situations
- Excellent communications skills with an ability to present in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Motivation and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
- Attention to detail, proof-reading skills with an ability to process information with a high degree of accuracy
- High degree of time management and organization skills, with an ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Ability to function in a team as well as independently, showing both resourcefulness and initiative to work independently with little supervision
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
- Excellent customer service skills to handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
- Knowledge of office procedures including strategies for records management
