**What can I expect to do in this role?**: Working in the Indigenous Consultation and Partnerships Branch, you will:

- Research data and issues on Ontario treaties, rights, and cultural values to identify impacts on Aboriginal and treaty rights requiring legislative reform, policy, or program responses
- Provide strategic policy advice and operational support to management and staff, and stakeholders on Indigenous issues, relations, programs, policy projects and initiatives
- Lead and coordinate the development of in-depth reports, and present policy options and recommendations to ministry senior management for decision-making purposes
- Assist senior management in resolving issues arising from consultation and interpretation of Aboriginal and/or treaty rights
- Establish and maintain a network of staff and stakeholder relationships

**How do I qualify?**:
**Policy, Leadership and Project Management Skills**:

- You have experience leading and managing the development of large-scale policy, programs and initiatives.
- You have experience providing leadership in policy and program development, delivery and implementation.
- You can champion project management approaches, coach staff and provide expert advice to management and stakeholders.
- You can effectively complete project deliverables from initial concept through completion.

**Consultation, Advice and Issues Management**:

- You can lead the development and implementation of engagement and consultation strategies with stakeholders and government counterparts.
- You can provide consultation advice to regulators and management, including identifying Indigenous communities for mineral resource activity and supporting electronic database maintenance.
- You can provide consultation training to regulators and management, helping the ministry meet its Duty to Consult before authorizing mineral exploration and development activities under the Mining Act.

**Knowledge of Ontario's Indigenous Communities and Organizations**:

- You have practical/operational experience in Ontario's Indigenous communities and organizations.
- You have extensive knowledge of the factors and issues impacting and influencing Indigenous policy development: the Crown's legal Duty to Consult, Aboriginal and Treaty rights, and inter-governmental relations.
- You have an understanding of the concepts, barriers and principles for engaging, consulting, and building relationships with Indigenous partners, communities and organizations.

**Research, Evaluation and Analytical Skills**:

- You can conduct independent research into the history of Aboriginal and treaty rights on a range of levels from community to provincial organizations.
- You can assess data and information to develop evidence-based recommendations.
- You have research and analytical skills to assess and address issues affecting Indigenous people.

**Communication and Relationship Management Skills**:

- You have interpersonal and relationship building skills to develop trusting and positive working relationships with colleagues, other government stakeholders and Indigenous organizations and representatives.
- You have oral communication skills and political acuity to lead consultations and provide expert, strategic advice, training and support to senior management.
- You have demonstrated written communication and computer skills to prepare a variety of correspondence (i.e. reports, presentations, speaking notes, and other communications).
