**IABE Casual Instructor**

Indigenous Adult Basic Education (IABE) Program

Native Education College (NEC) opened its doors in 1967 and became British Columbia's largest private Indigenous College. NEC’s purpose is to contribute to an Indigenous, holistic experience that positions the Indigenous learner to uphold their responsibility and obligations to their family, and nation of origin as autonomous Peoples. NEC provides culturally relevant education and training for Indigenous Peoples to pursue career aspirations and enhance academic goals in alignment with their diverse cultural identities and traditional knowledge. The NEC longhouse offers access to many resources and in-house support that includes cultural and spiritual support, funding, counselling, and career advising from a culturally authentic lens.

**Position Summary**

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Provide quality one-on-one and group instruction for assigned courses and assist students in self-monitoring and learning goals.
- Serve as first point of contact for students ensuring all program inquiries are directed appropriately.
- Maintain student files, track statistics, provide program reports.
- Work with NEC and staff in a positive, professional, cooperative manner.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Any combination of education and work experience as follows will be considered:

- Bachelor of Education Degree or a B.A. (English, Math or) with a Provincial Instructor’s Diploma, or a Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
- Significant teaching experience, preferably in the post-secondary education system.
- Excellent verbal, written and computer communication skills.
- Knowledge of Indigenous values, communities, and instructional methodology, and experience working with Indigenous organizations.
- Must be proficient in MS Teams and Moodle/online learning platforms.

**Terms**:
Appointment to this casual leave replacement contract position will require a formal criminal record check should a recent one not be on file, the details of which may preclude finalizing an offer of employment. Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants.

**Start Date**: April 23, 2024/ ASAP **End Date**: July 26, 2024

**Hours**:Monday to Friday: 7.5 hours/week per course

**Salary**: $38.41 per hour per Collective Agreement

**Job Type**: Casual

Pay: $38.41 per hour

Expected hours: 7.5 - 35 per week

Flexible Language Requirement:

- French not required
