**Technician - CPD Toxicology/Microbiology**

The CPD -Toxicology/Microbiology technician is an integral member of the CPD team. They are responsible for cleaning and preparing laboratory glassware/plasticware/tools to ensure that the analysis can proceed as necessary. This position will also prepare media, reagents, solutions, impingers, ice baths or other glassware and equipment as required to be used during assays, sample preparation or sample generation. The CPD technician is responsible for ensuring that all applicable equipment is verified/calibrated prior to use.

The CPD technician will also be responsible for receiving deliveries, keeping track of consumables and requesting consumables are ordered in a timely manner. The technician must work in cooperation with the CPD-Toxicology/Microbiology team and adhere to the rules of safety within the laboratory, as well as follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Labstat Test Methods. The technician must possess the ability to work independently and communicate with the team.

**Primary responsibilities of the job**:

- Assist with setting up and conducting standardized laboratory experiments, tests and basic analysis.
- Machine setup, calibration, troubleshooting. Balance verification. Obtain Assist with setting up and conducting standardized laboratory experiments, tests and basic analyses.
- General laboratory upkeep (e.g., cleaning, maintenance and verifications of small equipment)
- Use general laboratory equipment such as autoclaves to sterilize plasticware/glassware/tools; analytical balance to weigh out proper amounts for the preparation of solutions/reagents; cell counter to prepare solutions and reagents as required.
- Assist the laboratory technologist(s) look after biological waste disposal and general housekeeping and cleaning of the Biological Activity Media Preparation laboratory (following appropriate SOP’s and Test Methods) as and when required.
- Prepare samples following Standard Operator Procedures (SOP’s) while maintaining Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and adherence to ISO 17025 guidelines.
- Record raw data promptly and accurately and in compliance with the Principles of GLP and is responsible for the quality of the data.
- Exercise health precautions to minimize risk to her/himself and to ensure the integrity of the study. He/she should communicate to the appropriate person any relevant known health or medical condition in order that they can be excluded from operations that may affect the study.
- Conducts some limited analysis of test samples including: determination of carbon monoxide levels, pH and NOx levels
- Technicians have the duty to follow Health and Safety responsibilities as outlined in the Safety Manual and adhere to all WHIMIS requirements.
- Compile records using our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Microsoft Office for analytical studies.
- Maintain quality standards by adhering to our quality control program.
- Cleaning and paperwork
- Daily Safety Inspections
- General maintenance and upkeep
- The employee shall implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform their duties in accordance to existing project specific requirements, current Test Methods, Study Plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Wear required Personal Protective equipment at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- ** B.Sc. in Toxicology or Microbiology or Cell Biology**:

- Knowledge of and experience with tissue culture principles and techniques_, 1-2 years preferred._
- Previous work as a technician in a cell culture laboratory
- Must be able to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of GLP
- Effective communication skills relevant to the position
- Demonstrate patience/adaptability to change.
- Work well while under pressure and with various distractions.
