**Marine Manager
- Safety and Compliance**

We have an immediate opening for a Safety and Compliance specialist based out of our Nakusp, BC location to actively lead and drive continuous improvement of our fresh water passenger ferry operations. As a hands-on versatile leader, you will guide the team to ensure safe and cost-efficient operations of the fleet. Reporting directly to the General Manager, and as a liaison with the operations and maintenance team, you will ensure delivery of innovative and effective safety training that meets or exceeds regulatory requirements.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Lead a team of mariners operating four Inland passenger ferry routes ensuing they work with safety as a priority
- Develop and implement risk assessments, standard operating procedures, health and safety policies/guidelines
- Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices
- Assisting the Operations Manager to train and develop crew in safety drills and marine operations protocols to conform with government regulations
- Actively participate in efforts to continuously improve operational safety programs including; monthly safety meetings, safety and operational audits as per the International Safety Management Code (ISM) and Safety Management System (SMS), compliance with corporate safety policies, toolbox meetings, accident/incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Lead the investigation of incidents, near misses and injuries and develop policies and procedures to mitigate future risk
- Interface with Federal and Provincial Regulatory agencies
- Coordinate and lead Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee Meetings
- Develop regular, ad hoc and monthly and annual reports including both qualitative and quantitative data
- Maintain and create safe working conditions while ensuring and maintaining high productivity and a cost-efficient operation
- Work with the Operations and Maintenances Mechanical teams to address unsafe equipment or practices
- Participate in additional company projects as required

**Qualifications/Skills/Experience**:

- Attainment of a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred
- Maritime or other marine based experience an preferred
- ISM Auditing experience an asset
- Experience working in a unionized worksite required
- Formal training and practical experience in training others
- Knowledge and understanding of OHS principles, theories, concepts and practices
- Trainer certificate or diploma an asset
- Valid BC Drivers license
- Strong computer skills and experience using MS Office
- Professional written and oral communication skills a must
- Ability to influence others through tactical and collaborative communication

**Location**

**Working Conditions**:

- Work is mostly performed onboard inland water vessels and in an office environment
- Work may be required in confined and dirty spaces

**Work Hours**:
Monday - Friday 07:00 - 16:00 or as required by current work load.This position is part of a continuous operation. At times, the incumbent will need the flexibility to be “on call” and available after hours. This schedule may include weekends and/or holidays, as directed by the General Manager. Overtime may be required without notice.

This position is non-union and completes work in a unionized environment. You will receive a competitive salary, full benefits including contributions to the pension plan and a company vehicle.
