**Position**: Recreation Coordinator - Independent and Supportive Living (Memory Care & Assisted Living)

**Purpose**: Position is responsible, in co-operation with other staff and team members, for providing a socially stimulating environment, enrichment experiences and activity programs which enhance the community.

**Reporting to**: Resident Activity & Support Supervisor

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 2 years relevant experience facilitating social and recreational programs in a retirement living/health care setting;
- Degree or Diploma in Recreation Therapy, Activation or Health Care, with Gerontology background;
- Able to develop programs and activities that meet the physical, spiritual, emotional, social and creative domains;
- Volunteer management experience an asset;
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the use of Internet resources
- Excellent social, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to connect and communicate effectively with residents living in independent and supportive living;
- Self managed, well organized, enthusiastic leader with a positive attitude;
- Personal Training Certification, Fitness Instructor Certification considered an asset;
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends;
- Able to effectively communicate in verbal and written English;
- Demonstrates comfort with the Christian philosophy of the community and will assist to meet the spiritual needs of the residents;
**Major Responsibilities**:
a. Assess the needs of the residents in respect to their own interests and abilities in the participation of an activity program.

b. Plan and implement the varied activities of Independent Living and Supportive Living, including planning and executing activities and outings for residents, developing relationships with them and welcoming new residents.

Able to develop programs and activities that hit the physical, spiritual, emotional, social and creative domains in memory care and assisted living.

d. Encourage residents to become involved and assist with the facilitation of resident-run programs.

e. Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating programs both in and out of the facility such as trips, open houses, family night, craft sales, etc.

f. Participate in creation of a socially stimulating environment through seasonal decorations, parties, etc.

g. Planning the activity calendar/newsletter and scheduling various activities for both Independent Living and Supportive Living.

h. Supervise assigned students and volunteers (where applicable) with guidance from the Resident Activity & Support Supervisor.

i. Communicate effectively and appropriately in both verbal and written formats with the Resident Activity & Support Supervisor and other Community Life staff regarding shared programs or specific concerns relating to the residents.

j. Problem solves effectively and positively with residents, members of the team and all staff.

k. Comply with the safety regulations and policies of the home and the activity department. Ensure responsibilities for health and safety are met.

l. Maintain and update daily/weekly/monthly advertisements for upcoming programs (digital screens, memos, posters, etc.)

m. Assist with monthly calendar deliveries to some residents in the community.

n. Actively participates in fire alarms and drills.

o. Able to work evenings and weekends.

p. Perform other duties as assigned.

**Hours**:
Weekdays: Monday - Friday 9:00-5:00PM

Every Third Weekend: 9:00-5:00PM

*Must be available to work occasional 12-8PM shifts

- Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is required. Everyone at this location is required to follow proper hand hygiene and wear a mask.
- A two-step TB test that can be arranged through your family doctor or many pharmacies.
- A Vulnerable Sector Check that can be obtained through designated Police locations.

**Salary**: $24.00 per hour
