Concurrent Disorders Counsellor- Scarborough Community Treatment

The Homestead Addiction Services Community Treatment Program provides addiction counselling and relapse prevention strategies to men and women residing in Scarborough through process groups, life skills classes and individual counselling. The counsellor also networks with community organizations for referrals to the program. The counsellor facilitates online virtual group programming in addition to individual telephone assessment/counselling for group participants (intake, midpoint and discharge assessments).

**Responsibilities and Tasks**:

- Make contact/build rapport with clients who are interested in an addiction recovery program
- Awareness of issues around and experience in dealing with concurrent disorders; marginalized populations; spiritual issues in recovery
- Awareness of Group Dynamics, with experience facilitating groups (preference given to experience facilitating virtual groups)
- The ability to provide trauma informed services
- Assessment
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective one-on-one counselling; support group facilitation; classroom teaching; outreach and pretreatment services
- Addiction Case Management
- Supportive and crisis counselling
- Training and experience in the delivery of program in the following areas: Relapse Prevention; Life Skills
- Identify and assess short and long term goals with client
- Provide ongoing Relapse Prevention Counselling and support client in their recovery goals
- Support clients to implement their action plan
- Provide referrals, as required, to connect clients to appropriate community support services
- Provide life skills teaching to clients, as required
- Maintain accurate and professional client documentation
- Attend team meetings as required
- Community networking
- Discharge Planning
- Report to Program Coordinator, Addictions Outreach

**Essential Skills and Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree from a recognized institution (in one of the human services professions), including qualification to enter a Provincially Regulated College
- Post-graduate education in Social Services field preferred
- Alternate level of education/experience may be considered
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the addiction/mental health sector
- Understanding of the continuum of substance use and concurrent disorders
- Knowledge and experience in women centered problematic substance use counselling interventions/treatment models
- Knowledge and experience counselling adults with concurrent disorders
- Understanding of trauma in relation to substance use
- Knowledge of culturally competent practices
- Maintain client records / files according to agency standards
- The ability to work individually and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- The ability to work collaboratively with community partners
- Knowledge and experience with data management systems, particularly EHMware

This is a full time position: 40 Hours per week, Full Time Permanent Position

Salary/Grade: Per the Collective Agreement
