Copernicus Lodge is a not-for-profit, charitable and ethno-specific organization made possible through the efforts of the Polish Canadian community and the vision of Father Michael Smith, O.M.I. We are located in the heart of the Roncesvalles community in the west-end Toronto, we provide a continuum of care in a predominantly Polish, Roman Catholic environment to meet the changing needs of our seniors. The Lodge comprises an Adult Day Program, 200 independent, affordable self-care apartments with a Supportive Housing program, and a 228- bed Long Term Care home.

We are seeking energetic and friendly individuals who have a genuine interest in seniors to join our organization as Pastoral Associates who will work closely with the pastoral team to support our resident's culture and spiritual needs.

**General statement of duties**:
The Pastoral Associates functions as an integral member of the long-term care pastoral team, sharing in the responsibility of the needs assessment, decisionmaking, planning and aligning of Copernicus Lodge's long-term care mission, vision and values in the daily operations. The position is a generalist, working at the direction of the pastoral team in conjunction with the Programs and Service department in responding to the home's spiritual, religious, educational, and administrative needs. The position requires coordinating activities with other local community Catholic Churches and working closely with the Missionary Sisters of Christ the King Toronto.

**Essential functions and major responsibilities**:
1. Administers designated L.T.C. home programs in collaboration with the Father and Program Coordinator/Sisters, using the mission, vision and value statements of the home as a guide. The L.T.C. programs include but are not limited to - Palliative Care Service - Daily Mass - End of life care - Sacrament of the sick - Academia - 1:1 visits etc.

2. Assists in the preparation of various sacraments. Provides support and spiritual guidance to residents and families as needed. Works with volunteers in establishing and attaining the home pastoral goals. Serves as a resource for the L.T.C. home, community parish groups, and religious education programs. Assist in coordinating the home's outreach efforts.

**Job Scope**: The Pastoral Associate will encounter new and varied work situations on a daily/weekly basis. The individual will publicize spiritual and religious care programs, facilitate escorting residents to spiritual programs and coordinate multiple functions with mínimal supervision.

**Communication & Contact**: The Pastoral Associates must be able to communicate with Staff, residents, family members and community partners through written, verbal and digital means. The PA must be able to keep confidence as the organization staff is often exposed to confidential/sensitive matters.

**Specific Job Skills**: The Pastoral Associates must understand the Catholic faith and faith development. They must be able to prioritize workload to meet program requirements and can work both independently and as a member of the pastoral team. The Pastoral Associates must be flexible, creative, responsible, and technologically inclined. And participate in the continuous quality improvement program regarding spiritual and religious care.

**Education and Experience**: The Pastoral Associates must be an active member of a Roman Catholic faith community and be certified or willing to pursue certification as a Master Catechist. A Bachelor's Degree in Religious Education or Theology is preferred.
