The Guesthouse Shelter (TGHS) is North Simcoe’s provider of emergency shelter, food and support to those of all ages suffering with homelessness and deep poverty. The Guesthouse Shelter operates a low-barrier shelter 24 hours a day, every day of the year, along with hot meals, support services, on-site community partner services, and assistance accessing community programs and services.

The Guesthouse Shelter has an immediate need for an individual who is looking to help lead our shelter and provide high quality shelter and services to approximately 50 people every day.

**Position Summary**:
In conjunction with the CEO and Health & Safety representative, the Shelter Operations Manager plans, oversees and communicates with management, staff, volunteers, and clients to ensure the successful day-to-day operations of the Guesthouse Shelter. The operations Manager must have a strong passion for the mission and vision of The Guesthouse Shelter, operate with a lens of trauma-informed care and harm reduction, as well as the values of compassion, respect, inclusion, and empowerment.

**Key Responsibilities**

Program Management
- Oversee the operations of the shelter and supporting programs/services including: client, staff and visitor safety, cleanliness, policy & procedure compliance, and minor/major repairs.
- Help develop and implement programs and services as needed to fulfill The Guesthouse Shelter’s mission and vision.
- Coordinate the ordering of supplies and food. Ensure the food program operates daily.
- Serve as a liaison between emergency shelter staff, CEO and other individuals in the community. This includes participation in community meetings that focus on homelessness, mental health, substance use issues, domestic violence and other issues concerning our guests.
- Oversee social media accounts and engage the community professionally and in the spirit of promotion of our services and community engagement.
- Engage and collaborate with the community on a regular basis to promote our mission and solicit community support, while ensuring neighborhood concerns and needs are being addressed.
- Attend to and address calls for donations and/or volunteering from the community.
- Attend to and address guest grievances and concerns.
- Ensure proper documentation is collected for guests, and reporting is completed in HIFIS such that it is an accurate and timely representation of the services provided. Maintain guest confidentiality with handling of all information collected from guests.
- Ensure all computer and communications (telephone, internet connectivity) equipment are functioning properly.
- Assist in fundraising and grant writing as it pertains to Guesthouse Shelter programs and services.

Supervision:

- Assist in the Recruitment of staff, and oversee the training, scheduling and supervision of staff, student interns and assist with volunteers.
- Assist in developing, updating and implementing training opportunities.
- Review and approve timesheets and expenses.
- Conduct staff meetings with emergency shelter personnel and attend other Guesthouse Shelter meetings as requested.
- Ensure staff compliance with standards of practice as well as agency policies and procedures.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required**:
An understanding of Trauma Informed Care and the experience and ability to work with people experiencing homelessness is mandatory. Applicants must have a demonstrated high level of management skills, dependability, flexibility and initiative. Must react effectively and appropriately in stressful situations and be able to interact with clients in crisis. Ability to train staff on crisis intervention, Trauma Informed Care, boundaries, and working with those experiencing homelessness. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to complete paperwork thoroughly and accurately. Experience managing staff and setting up systems. Must have working knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Experience with database entry strongly desired.

**Qualifications**:
Required:

- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or other related field required or demonstrated professional experience may be substituted for the degree requirement
- Two years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness
- Two years of experience supervising employees
- Two years of experience being responsible for managing/overseeing systems and/or programs
- Flexible schedule with evening, weekend and on-call availability
- Knowledge of mental illness and substance use disorder including approaches to recovery

Preferred:

- Knowledge of running a 24-hour facility
- A working knowledge of North Simcoe is preferred
