**Opportunity**:Vice President, Underwriting**

- Oversight of the underwriting performance of a large and complex specialty portfolio including loss ratio and premium plans.
- Achieves profitability and growth goals through the execution of an annual strategic plan including specific underwriting, pricing, retention, service, and expense plans, governed by the parameters of the corporate underwriting philosophy and strategy.
- Liaison and hold an important voice with key national and international insuring partners.
- Monitors corporate results and develops and implements actions as needed.
- Assists in establishing profit, growth, and operating objectives as part of the overall plan for the portfolio.
- Directs, manages, and develops management staff and underwriters.
- Incudes goal setting, assessment, staff selection, role alignment, completion of performance appraisals, and developing methods for building and mobilizing technically competent and highly effective staff.
- Responsible for overall communication of goals and priorities.
- Analyzes book trends and manages catastrophe exposure/aggregates.
- Working with the VP of Distribution analyzes data on competitors’ products, programs, and pricing levels.
- Implements new pricing levels and product modifications as needed.
- Maintains a strong professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments.
- Communicates and acts on this information effectively.
- In tandem with VP Distribution and where required, participates in customer and broker presentation meetings.
- Ensures compliance with underwriting standards and authorities.
- Directs in the creation of underwriting guidelines, product and coverage forms, or system modifications.
- Where applicable, be accountable for the delivery of key operational initiatives and lead projects, such as technology, corporate liaison, product development, and operational implementation.

**What you bring to the table**:

- 10+ years experience in P&C - commercial / specialty insurance.
- Minimum 7+ years of supervisory/management.
- Strong technical knowledge in complex specialty business and extensive casualty background is an asset.
- University degree or combination of experience and education.
- CIP, FCIP, or MBA are highly desirable.
- Hybrid working model in our head office in Cambridge.
- Capable of travel as required.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to focus on attention to detail.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence, motivate and drive change
- Proven track record of setting clear objectives and monitoring progress.
- Ability to address complex problems and take calculated risks to make critical decisions in time-sensitive situations.
- Effective communication skills to develop and foster business relationships with all levels of the organization.
