Operational and Cultural Support Worker

Type: Full-time; Permanent, 35 hrs/wk flexible work hours required

Location: Stephenville, NL

**Salary**: Salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications: Starting salary 25.00 hr

Ne’ata’q Place offers transitional housing for Indigenous women (cis, trans) with or without children who have experienced intimate partner violence. Ne’ata’q Place provides a safe and culturally rich living environment to help residents progress through their healing journey and obtain adequate housing and stability. The services include housing, mental health counseling and support, life skills development, community liaison, child and youth support, and Indigenous cultural supports to create a truly fulsome support for those in need.

Cultural Support Duties
- Promote and support traditional cultural teachings and practices for residents, guests and staff.
- Provide supportive and trusting relationships to residents.
- Engage in collaborative community partnerships to promote traditional healing, teachings, and protocols.
- Help build a model of cultural safety for healing, ceremony, and aid in introducing traditional practices to residents.
- Function as a role model and mentor to residents and within the community.
- Liaison with Elders, traditional resources, and administration to ensure correct protocol is practiced.

Operational Duties
- Assist in program facilitation and encourage resident participation and collaboration.
- Provide aid and support to clients during difficult and crisis situations.
- Ensures the smooth operations of the house by performing operational duties including, but not limited to, shopping, cooking, yard work, donations management and basic housekeeping.
- Perform all duties as required to ensure a safe environment for all.

**Qualifications**:

- Relevant education or training in social work, community leadership, indigenous studies or a related field, experience in a directly related field, and/or lived experience.
- Knowledge of the dynamics of intimate partner violence/abuse and safety planning.

Conditions of Employment
- Valid driver’s license
- Satisfactory criminal record review including working with vulnerable sector check
