**Job Summary**:
Reporting to the CFO, the Regional Controller must have a strong operational focus and will play a major role in production reporting, the month-end closing process as well as supervision of the daily accounting functions. The individual must be able to make strong connections with other departments and individuals within the organization. Major duties include a review of production reporting, a review of month-end balance sheet reconciliation preparation, income statement analysis, and streamlining or radical revision of current process flows.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Prepares financial statements for Richmond Steel Recycling Limited
- Development of a standard suite of automated reports to be produced for operational reporting and control
- Reviews general ledger reconciliations and schedules
- Prepares monthly CAD and US bank reconciliations
- Audits workflow to assure that all accounting transactions are accurate and appropriately authorized
- Responsible for inventory counts of yard inventory at least 3 times a week and reviews production reporting
- Review of fixed asset reporting and conducts periodic physical counts of fixed assets
- Supervision of accounting staff including Assistant Controller, Junior Assistant Controller, 2 Staff Accountants, and Accounts Payable Coordinator
- Liaison with scale operations, HR, purchasing, freight, and operations to ensure accurate input of information from those areas
- Review of payroll, both hourly and salaried, for accuracy and prepares journal entries for the payroll
- Responsible for month-end closing of inventory and accounting systems
- Supervises or prepares monthly journal entries
- Back-up for assistant controllers for sales and purchase contracts
- Review backup of and sign cheques for freight, processors, trade and non-trade payables
- Assures internal control compliance
- Takes the lead with branch audits, internal compliance reviews and external audits
- Lean 6 Sigma concepts to current transaction flows
- Business process re-engineering to re-design transactional processes
- Managing, under guidance, the company’s foreign exchange and hedge exposures
- Managing, under guidance, the company’s risk management exposure including, but not limited to insurance and coverages
- Assisting with the budgeting process
- Weekly expense forecasting for use in the company’s overall financial forecasting
- Managing all HR functions for a core team of 6 with dotted-line reporting for several others
- Actively working to optimize our current financial systems
- Assisting with Board of Director presentations with the goal of presenting in person to the Board within 1 year
- Assists CFO as needed
- Works on special projects, as requested

**Requirements**:

- 3-5 years of accounting supervisory experience in a similar role or as a Controller where there has been a demonstrated progression in duties and responsibilities
- Current accounting designation a must.
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to learn complex systems quickly and past experience with complex ERP systems
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
- Good knowledge of all Office suite products with a particular emphasis on Excel
