**Description**:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the jobholder will assist the Technical Agent - Horticulture and Arboriculture in carrying out action plans in horticulture operations. She or he will also take an active part in projects involving landscaping and maintenance of plants and grass to be carried out in the City’s rights-of-way, parks, green spaces, riverbanks or public places.

**General responsibilities and goals**:
**The jobholder’s main responsibilities are as follows**:

- Detect diseases, insects, larvae and other pests and weeds noxious to public health.
- Help plan and coordinate activities related to various diseases, insects, larvae or other pests, and related to the replacement and planting.
- Participate, along with various municipal departments, in planning, developing, monitoring and supervising various projects.
- Take samples or ensure that they are taken.
- Stake out and tag plants as necessary for horticultural work.
- Carry out quality control over work performed by contractors or subcontractors for guarantee and payment purposes. If necessary, ensure that the required corrective action is taken, advise her or his supervisor of the action carried out, write a report
- Record data and draft reports needed by senior management for various initiatives, events and daily activities.
- Inspect plants and landscaping arrangements, recommend appropriate horticultural work and establish intervention priorities.
- Do surveys and inventory of landscaping arrangements.
- Read plans and make notes.
- Participate in the updating of horticulture management tools.
- Ensure communication among the various municipal departments.
- Perform any other related task.

**Job requirements**:
The applicant must hold a college diploma in an appropriate sector and profile. One year of experience in a similar position is required, as well as knowledge of French and English sufficient to sustain a conversation.

**The position also requires the following**:

- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s licence;
- Knowledge of diseases and insect pests, plant species, pesticides, biopesticides, fertilizers, principles of integrated pest management and cultivated land maintenance practices;
- Sound knowledge of urban botany, horticulture and arboriculture and of plant and grass quality assessment;
- Tact and courtesy;
- Ability to work independently;
- Ability to draft technical reports and short texts;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;
- Knowledge of CAD softwares will be considered an asset.

**Schedule**:
35 hours per week

For the period between Thanksgiving and the first (1st) Monday of May: Monday to Friday inclusively, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., minus one (1) hour for lunch.

For the period between the first (1st) Monday of May and Thanksgiving: Monday to Thursday inclusively, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., minus forty-five (45) minutes for lunch; Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon.
