**Position Overview**:
As the Lead Buyer at AMPCO, you play a pivotal role in driving the procurement strategy for materials, components, and services essential to support the seamless production and operation within the automotive industry. Your responsibilities encompass not only sourcing and acquiring these vital resources but also encompass strategic planning, supplier relationship management, and ensuring the continuous flow of high-quality inputs necessary for our manufacturing processes.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Mentor and lead the buying group in placing orders based on requisitions from various departments, ensuring timely follow-up and accurate tracking of shipment details in the ERP system.
- Establish and maintain efficient purchasing files and supplier records to facilitate smooth operations, guiding team members in these tasks.
- Develop and implement strategies for sourcing, supplier management, negotiation, productivity, and fostering positive customer and supplier relationships.
- Collaborate across organizational levels and functions to achieve sourcing goals and objectives, including supporting new product launches.
- Track, monitor, and evaluate supplier performance, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards. Conduct regular performance reviews, negotiate favorable terms, and mentor team members in conducting reviews.
- Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate replacements or credits for defective materials, fostering positive relationships and providing leadership to the team in supplier interactions.
- Coordinate the procurement process by requesting quotes and arranging transportation for incoming shipments and equipment purchases, guiding team members in these activities.
- Evaluate and select suppliers for automotive components, materials, and services, providing guidance and leadership to the team in building strong supplier relationships.
- Monitor and ensure contract compliance, recommending cost-saving strategies while upholding quality standards, and provide guidance to the team in enforcing compliance.
- Analyze costs and identify efficiency opportunities to enhance the supply chain, guiding team members in analyzing data and implementing improvements.
- Work closely with other departments to optimize inventory levels and minimize lead times, providing mentorship and leadership in cross-functional collaboration.
- Collaborate with quality assurance and control teams to ensure compliance with standards and address any quality issues, providing mentorship and guidance to the team in these efforts.
- Assess supply chain risks and drive the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance procurement processes, leading and mentoring the team in this effort.
- Stay informed about market trends and industry changes, guiding the team in making informed procurement decisions, and sharing knowledge with team members.
**What you bring to Ampco**:
- 3-5 years' procurement experience.
- A robust understanding of compliance would be a definite asset.
- Possession of a professional designation in Supply Chain Management (SCMP) is highly valued.
- Leadership experience is a definite advantage, showcasing your ability to guide and inspire.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, demonstrating initiative and providing valuable solutions.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment, adept at prioritizing tasks with tight deadlines.
- Exemplary work ethic, self-motivated, and results-driven.
- Proven track record of collaborative teamwork.
