Due to the impact of addiction on families, specialized programs and support are offered for loved ones and family members, including children.

**About the position**:
Reporting to the Manager, Family and Continuing Care Programs, the Family Program Counsellor is responsible for the delivery of Renascent's Family Program services and supporting clients attending the Virtual Intensive Treatment Program stream that are experiencing addiction to alcohol and/or other drugs.

**Key Responsibilities**:
The position includes, but is not limited to the following:

- Present Family Program information to Renascent Primary Care clients and identify family members who may be contacted for information or services
- Outreach to family members of Renascent Primary Care clients through written and verbal contact
- Respond to enquiries that family members make about addictions and the Renascent Family Program
- Provide family members with orientation to the Renascent Family Program
- Provide assessments for family members to identify issues, goals, strengths and needs
- Deliver and facilitate Family Program seminar sessions
- Provide individual counseling to adult family members
- Conduct intake and discharge meetings with Family Program clients
- Conduct family counselling or arrange referrals to other services, when appropriate
- Provide crisis management/support and advocacy when required
- Assist family members in developing recovery plans, including plans for attendance at mutual support groups and access to other helping resources and practical supports in the community
- Refer family members to community assessment, counselling, social service resources, and practical supports as needed (e.g. children’s mental health services, financial counselling services, police, child welfare, assaulted women’s services)
- Maintain sound professional boundaries and conform to Renascent’s Code of Professional Conduct
- Fulfill responsibilities in regard to reporting child abuse, violence, and neglect within the family

**Qualifications**:

- Degree or certificate in social services, and/or work experience in the field of addictions.
- ICADC/OCSWSSW certification or working towards certification in 12 Core Functions of Substance Abuse Counselling an asset.
- Lived experience of addiction recovery with active involvement in a 12-Step program for alcoholism/addiction required.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written are essential, including an ability to share life experiences for the benefit of the clients.
- Demonstrated ability to establish rapport, earn respect and enforce rules in a manner that is both effective and respectful.
