Position Summary
The District Vice-Principal - Inclusive Education works under the direction of the District Principal - Inclusive Education and as part of the District’s Leadership Team. The District Vice-Principal shares responsibility for services related to Inclusive Education including, but not limited to, Ministry of Education and Child Care submissions and compliance, staffing and budget oversight, program development and implementation, and continual enhancement of the capacity of teachers, administrators, and support workers to provide exceptional educational services for inclusive education.
**Responsibilities**:
Participates as a regular member of the District’s Leadership Team.
Assists in the development of the annual budget and prepares cost estimates based on program needs.
Assists in oversight of the departmental budget and ensuring that programs are cost-effective, and funds are managed prudently.
Assists in the preparation, review, and revision of job descriptions in the department in collaboration with the District Principal and Human Resources.
Supervises staff and provides regular feedback and coaching to assist them in performing their best.
Assists the District Principal in the coordination of staffing in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary manner including district psychologists, speech language pathologists, inclusion coaches and other inclusive support staff.

Assists the District Principal in evaluating job performance of staff on an annual basis using the District’s policies and procedures.
Represents the District on local, regional, and provincial networks and committees.
Demonstrates a deep understanding of diverse learning needs and utilizes strength-based solutions, to address a variety of diverse student needs in K-12.These include trauma informed practice, self-regulation and collaborative problem solving.
Respectfully manages highly charged communications towards a positive solution.
Keeps current on Ministry of Education funding category requirements and audit compliance procedures.
Liaises as needed with other related community agencies such as the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Child and Youth Mental Health, Public Health and Youth Justice and representing the school district on local children and youth committees, and other such committees concerned with special services.
Assists with the annual submission for the Special Education Branch of the Ministry of Education.
In collaboration with the District Principal Assists in leading and coordinating Inclusive Education services for Grades K - 12.
Coordinates the Inclusive Education team in building instructional and support capacity of teachers, administrators, and support staff through the provision of in-service activities.
Assists with the allocation and oversight of Inclusion Support Teachers, and Educational Assistants.
Assists in evaluating programs and staff, writing reports, recommending, and developing programs and interventions for improvement.
In collaboration with the District Principal and school-based administrators, monitors achievement and graduation rates of designated students and works with schools in developing and implementing plans for improvement.
Organizes, coordinates, and leads workshops and in-service for the development of staff in alignment with current methodology and recommended practice.
Works with Human Resources in identifying and allocating staffing for special education teachers and educational assistants.
Represents the school district at provincial and Ministry of Education meetings and workshops and attends local meetings of administrators or other meetings required by the Board or Superintendent of Schools.
Education and Experience
Completion of a Master’s degree in Inclusive Education or related area
A Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a valid BC teaching certificate
A minimum of five years of successful experience in a leadership position including a minimum of three years of recent and exemplary experience as a vice principal either at the school or district level leading programs, initiatives, and staff
A minimum of three years of recent experience related to leading inclusive education which includes:
demonstrating a deep understanding of diverse learning needs in K-12
organizing, and leading workshops and in-service for the development of staff in alignment with current methodology and recommended practice
complying with Ministry of Education and Child Care’s funding category requirements and audit compliance procedures
managing a complex budget
Experience leading and teaching in a unionized public-school setting using the BC curriculum preferred
