Smart Earth Camelina has been in the business of developing the best lines of camelina for over 20 years. We are currently looking for a senior breeder to aid in guiding our team in continued breeding excellence. We are offering an opportunity to work for a smaller company with lots of future growth potential. Smart Earth Camelina is looking for a full-time plant breeder with extensive experience to help guide and grow our camelina breeding program.

**Responsibilities and Duties**
- Plan, manage and execute a plant breeding program in _Camelina sativa_.
- Plan and manage field trails with breeding assistant and third-party consultants.
- Implement marker assisted selection and other molecular breeding strategies.
- Collect and report trial plot data for yield, disease resistance, and other characteristics of interest.
- Collaborate in the development and management of breeding projects which includes writing and submission of projects, problem solving, project management meetings and reports.
- Must be willing to travel to nurseries and field sites in Saskatchewan.
- Ability to work outside and in greenhouse environments under various temperature conditions.
- Develop efficient and functional breeding strategies that challenge and outperform current methodologies.

**Professional skills and Qualifications Required**
- Ph.D. with a major in genetics or plant breeding with experience managing a breeding program or MSc. with a major in in plant breeding and >6 years of experience.
- Knowledge of molecular genetics and associated tools/methods as they relate to a breeding program.
- Experience with database management and statistical software and implementation of same.

Preferred abilities/skill sets
- Ability to work in a team and be willing to collaborate and train others.
- A collaborative approach, with excellent communication skills, open to giving and receiving ideas, perspectives, and feedback.
- Knowledge of farm practices and Canadian production will be important in understanding the targets of the plant breeding program.
- Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
