**The Opportunity**

The Operations Department is comprised of four Branches: Administration, Parks and Forestry Operations, Roads and Fleet Operations and Solid Waste Operations. Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City’s public works infrastructure and systems including roadways; rail, winter maintenance; parks and green spaces, including forestry; solid waste operations; and maintenance of the corporation’s fleet of vehicles and equipment.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Technical, Stormwater and Rail Operations, the position is responsible for conducting inspections, investigations, sampling and data reporting for stormwater, roads, and winter control programming for compliance purposes in accordance with approved system wide Environmental Compliance Approvals, provincial legislation, and minimum maintenance standards.

Working as a team with Co-op Students and Roads Operators and assisting the Senior Operations Technologists with operational portfolios; this position is responsible for leading data collection in the field for all work required, ensuring consistency of data capture while maintaining accuracy and input of data in the office. The position assists Senior Operations Technologists in further analyzing and trending data, leading to new programming through innovations as well as improvements in existing Branch Programming for the residents of Barrie.

**Education **(degree/diploma/certifications)
- Two (2) year College Diploma in Environmental Technician or related discipline

**Experience**
- Four (4) months of full-time experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities

**Knowledge/Skill/Ability**
- General knowledge of construction practices related to stormwater management and roads
- Working knowledge of field and water quality sampling and work order management software
- Demonstrated ability to:

- read and interpret engineering drawings
- multitask and support multiple programs efficiently and effectively
- work independently with mínimal supervision
- identify problems; develop and evaluate options; and implement solutions utilizing reason, judgment, and prescribed resources
- perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission, and values
- Intermediate skills include: Customer Service; Organizational; Verbal Communication; Written Communication
- Intermediate computer literacy using Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and the internet
- Availability, as assigned, to assist with after-hours questions, concerns, or emergencies

**Conditions of Employment**

**Other Important Information**

**Location**: Operations Center, 165 Ferndale Drive North, Barrie, Ontario.

**Hours**: The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

**Wage**: This position is within the CUPE Local 2380 Bargaining Unit with the following pay level and 2023 pay range:

- _Pay Level:_ Level 4
- _Yearly Salary:_ $59,155.20 to $70,844.80 per year
- _Hourly Pay Rate:_ $28.44 to $34.06 per hour
